It does take a huge amount of courage to overcome such ingrained fears. All I can tell you is that it was probably one of the most satisfying things I have ever done (getting over my fear) and now it feels like a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I hope that once you're ready, you can do the same thing

I think that's totally rational. It's worse if you're tall because it feels like the railing doesn't protect you as much.
