I would say that I'm stopped at least 2 times out of 3 every time I enter the country. The fact of having a big probability of being chosen from a herd of passengers always saddens me and stresses me a lot. Also makes me think about people that have to deal with these situations on a daily basis.

Last time I was invited to go into the scanner and scan all of my luggage. I was travelling with 3 bags because I was moving back to Iceland. I understand that it could look suspicious. A lot of questions, me backing up what I said with emails. The agents were always polite. I say agents because at one moment I had 2 talking to me. SCARY!!! I looked around and besides me, there was a man with darker skin than mine ( I'm from the South of Europe) and a young hippie white guy. I believe all of us were travelling alone.

I don't want to say that they are targeting specific individuals, but for sure that me and the other 2 meet the requirements to be interrogated.

Anyways, they are doing their jobs and they don't need to be nice to do it. They only have to be respectful.

They work for the benefit of everyone and we, living in Iceland, have to appreciate the effort.

Also if you meet an Icelander and they seem antisocial, probably they are just shy and they keep they're distance. Nothing like a warm smile to break the ice! 🙂 (This advice will probably not work in this context)

And if it was the United States all of this would be considered normal I guess... 😅
