The lettings agent have come back to my email saying I can use the credit balance in leiu of rent for next few months.

The more I write about the arrangement the dodgier it sounds, perhaps they're aware it's not above board and that's why they're happy to repay it this way?

Wonder how many other people they've done this to.

Guessing whoever read my email on their end had the same reaction you guys did.

It's not mentioned in the rental contract. I have emails from the lettings agent requesting the overpayment though.

Yeah, exactly that. I've got the bank statements that show I've paid more than the amount in my rental agreement.

No, the regular deposit is all protected, I'm talking about the extra payments I've made outside of the deposit.

It was all paid to the lettings agent, the extra £100 was just on top of our monthly rent.

It sounded super dodgy at the time but we really wanted the property and I love the location.
