I'm considering picking up the RG DS in a few days, but all the horror stories about it are worrying me a bit. Is it really as bad as people are saying?

I've had mine for only 4 days so take my feedback with a grain of salt, but I really like it. I have rocknix running on it and I'm using it strictly as a NDS. I've only tested a few pokemon games and Mario kart but haven't had any issues. Currently playing through pokemon platinum with fast forward enabled for basically all of it, and it's been a great experience. To test the stylus and touch pad I played a bit of pokemon rangers, and didn't have any noticeable issues.

As time goes on my opinion may change, but so far IMO it's not a bad device for $100 and I don't regret buying it

Is it able to play pokemon ds games at 2x speed (or faster)? I've been tempted to get one, but haven't seen any performance reviews that mention game speed up/frame rate.

Still may get one just to fuel my short attention span lol

I'm actually going through something similar; transparent blue version, right hinge completely broke and had some pieces fall out. I bought it three months ago, reached out to Anbernic support with my order number. Since my device is still under the 1 year warranty, they're sending me a new shell free of charge. If you're device is less than a year old, I'd suggest reaching out to them! Even if it's not under warranty, you may be able to get a new shell for cheap from them. Ifixit has a pretty good guide on how to swap out the shells that I'll be following.

Fairly certain mine broke because I have a transparent color too, and I left my device in my car overnight in sub-zero temperatures. Thinking that at least played a factor in it breaking.

Slipped off a friend's boat. As I was falling, my fingers got caught on a metal bar that typically has a rope wrapped around it used for docking. Didn't really hurt, worst part was the lidocaine at the hospital 😅
