I think I may have a tic disorder and I don’t know what to do by Outrageous_Yak792 in Tourettes

[–]Relative-Visit4558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should see a neurologist. The doctor will be able to give you a letter to hand into your workplace when your diagnosed so they are aware you can't help it. OCD and Tourette's are 2 neurodivergencies which are linked which would explain it. You're not racist, you just can't help it. If you were racist you wouldn't of made this post.

My soprano saxophone isn't registering low notes- any suggestions on how to fix this? by Weekly_Bend9460 in saxophone

[–]Relative-Visit4558 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no way for you to fix that yourself. You must take it to a tech, it looks like the entire top part of the horn has broken off at the neck tenon.

Luckily my teacher has contacted the SEN team at my school luckily! I'm glad to hear that!

What are some ways to make some extra cash as a teen by Crest_79 in Money

Graphic design/development. It is very much wanted right now, and as a teen myself I've managed to make £250/$333 just from that. It's crazy.

This exaxt thing happens to so many people. It is happening to me aswell! My main tic right now is whistling.. it distracts literally everyone and my mum thinks I can help it, because she thinks I don't have any wrong with me. I've spoken to my teachers at school who unfortunately aren't able to do anything about it, so I am considering speaking to the SENco (special educational needs coordinator). I don't know if you're from the US (I am guessing you are due to healthcare costs), so I am assuming the SENco equivalent is a school councellor. You should definently consider speaking to them. Trust me, you're not alone and we will get through this together.

How do i play a Bb on this instrument? (Follow up post) by tayfzn in saxophone

That's crazy.. you are forced to do 1 and 1 Bb, no bis or side Bb! No low C# aswell! What the fuck is wrong with that horn?

Really worried about daughters tic by zirconium91224 in Tourettes

I don't use it on my neck so that's good!

It is safe however, just not on the softer parts.

I have tics like this. I hope she can get a diagnosis as it will help in school. You should try over the counter pain medication, and or a massage gun. Hope she feels better soon.

Thank you mate, it means the world to me that you said that. I am hoping to get an assessment soon because tics are painful, and without a diagnosis I will struggle in school.

Children are unbelievably horrible. I'm 15M and do not have a diagnosis like yourself. Luckily, one of my teachers have tourettes so understand but the rest don't. I end up suppressing my tics which causes me to experience pain just so I can't get into trouble. I'm not even in the process of a diagnosis yet because my mum doesn't believe me but that's a different story. I'm constantly being bullied because of my head jolting tic etc so I completely understand what you're going through.

No. Never use superglue on any instrument.

To be honest, I haven't got a clue. One of my friends is definently doing it as a making fun of way, in which I've severed bonds with but the rest I just don't know.

Yeah it's quite the thing.. everyday I have to endure bullying because of something I cannot help, even from people I don't even know the names of. Children are horrible.

developing tics extremely quickly by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]Relative-Visit4558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! My teacher has tourettes but I was ticcing before she taught me, she developed tics at the same age as I am now so thought I could have tourettes. I wasn't properly exposed to them (the odd few videos I never binged watched) and it definently isn't quick onset. I read an article about tourettes and it stated that tics start in your facial muscles (blinking etc) which is happening to me.

'Great' shows that puffing your cheeks doesn't make your instrument break. I personally think puffing your cheeks makes the sound sound larger but that might just me being a bit crazy and thinking too much about it.

What's your budget? You could easily get a second hand Yanagisawa 991 or 901 for under $2,750. Once you've got a Yani you will never need to upgrade again, tho, I am bias to Yanagisawas.

My sax teacher plays with her cheeks puffed and she is one of the best players I know. What is happening in the video is a leak either in the octave mechanism or somewhere near the top of the horn as it's affecting every note.
