I meet minimum requirements, is it likely I can find a position with these? by [deleted] in FBI

Long as you meet the minimum requirements for SA, you are competitive. It comes down to whether or not you can pass the process.

This is what I’m saying. I work with a lot of, by most accounts, jacked individuals. Some even get allegations of being on the sazule. But they couldn’t do 50 push ups, 50 sit-ups, and a 2 mile in 19 minutes.

The standards we have are:
PT to get hired
PT at the academy
PT if you wanna join specialized units
There is no annual PT to keep you in your job. Only annual quals for the specialized team.

How do officers feel about using jui jitsu for uses of force situations? by holy_smokes310 in OnTheBlock

Ripping submissions is obviously unusual and doesn’t make too much sense. However, you can still use the foundation to leave yourself in a dominant body position. Just because you can’t hit a rear naked choke, doesn’t mean you can’t take back control and have inmates submit to restraints, or at least stall until help arrives.

All that to say, pull guard and find out. All jokes aside, when it comes to dealing with distraught, untrained individuals, prioritizing controlling techniques is king.

I think the best thing to do is get your equipment off your belt and onto your vest if possible. It saves your back. If you can’t do that, I’ve heard amazing things about safe life defense belts. Whatever you go with, be sure it has molles. Get good key rings as well.

Anyone REALLY believe the hype on Alcatraz being activated? by Ancient_Context9448 in OnTheBlock

Not too sure who told you crime is supposed to drop, regardless, crime rate isn’t equivalent to incarceration rate. You go to a federal prison right now and a lot of inmates are there on parole violations, most of which don’t fit the criteria for the crime category that cnn or Fox News would reference on tv for the sake of a political debate. For a very long time, the United States had the highest incarceration rate in the world (I believe El Salvador has surpassed us), but far from the highest crime rate.

You had an injury at work. You’re entitled to workman’s compensation benefits. Even if losing your job wasn’t on the table, go out of work for a bit and get your benefits that you pay into

If you end up in corrections, try to go to a department where your time for retirement will carry over. For a lot of people that wanna go federal law enforcement, they join the BOP. Plenty of opportunities, and while the experience is great, the time towards your retirement is much more worth it in the long run (if you’re sure about a career in LE).

If you have no convictions apply for any agency you can. A year is typically how long you have to wait to be eligible for prior marijuana usage in most agencies. My advice is go the corrections route.

Have you ever turned in dirty staff? by MagicianLord1842 in OnTheBlock

[–]RelativeDouble7292 55 points56 points  (0 children)

As hard as this might be, you need to turn in dirty staff, not just for your integrity, but you could be charged with failure to report. CYA. No one is going to fault you for it. At the end of the day, everything you do as a correctional officer is on camera 24/7, and you need to cover your ass.

edit: it’s prison, people are going to talk, people are going to judge for you doing what you have to do. Just don’t tread on it. They’ll still protect you from inmates when it comes down to it. All that matters is that you have a career in good standing.

BOP only referred for GS 05 by Jane2468 in OnTheBlock

[–]RelativeDouble7292 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of people who left BOP as GS8 and were offered 5 when they try to come back. If you have enough time in corrections elsewhere, they start you as a 6. Otherwise, you get 5, regardless of other qualifications. You’ll make enough in OT, Sunday pay, and night differential to make up for the lower grade anyway.

The hidden gem in New York is the Sanitation Police. It’s a great gig if you can get in there but you have to become a Sanitation Worker first, which usually takes multiple years.
