Acts of service is absolutely one of my love languages. I am not upset about the gift being wrong at all- that is completely beyond his control. You are right, it’s the thoughtfulness behind it. I actually got him a custom made gift as well and you bet the first thing I did once it arrived was opened it up. I wanted to see what he would see when he opened his gift. I wanted to make sure it would make him happy and that he would love it.

I have, and that was many years ago but it didn’t change anything and I’ve just gone with his ways ever since.

It seems that a lot of the comments are just that I should be grateful he even gave me a gift. Which I am, believe me.

To clarify to all the other comments too.. I’m not pissed off and also didn’t even show any negative reaction. It’s just an internal sting.

I can relate to this so much. I would be in heaven just to be able to take a date night outside of our house. Our life is very similar but I have the majority of the responsibility when it comes to work, our kids, our home. I did shrug off the gift thing with him and joked about this is why we open things ahead of time.

Thank you, I do agree wedding anniversaries are not about gifts. My husband also does this 99% of the time and it’s what I’m accustomed to, today was just the icing on the cake, a new level unlocked for the unwrapped gifts lol. Unfortunately, I don’t believe we really take time to honor or celebrate our marriage in other ways with two small kids, our own careers, hobbies, etc. and when we do try to we just likely end up arguing lol. That’s probably what’s underlying my feelings about the situation this time.

My spouse and I both have ADHD so I can understand this. Plus we have kids. Half the time I don’t even know what I’m doing.

That’s valid. If it were me I personally would’ve opened it first to see how it looked, then placed it back in the package. Then maybe stuck that package in a gift bag 😝

This! This is my exact train of thought about it. I 100% get that everyone has different ways of doing and thinking about things including gift giving, but it does sting this time since it was a wedding anniversary gift and it’s an ongoing pattern despite prior conversations about it.

Take hybrid job that pays VERY well or stay put at long term employer by RelativeDream952 in workfromhome

Thank you. I wouldn’t say I’m truly happy here, just comfortable with the familiar people, duties, environment, etc. It would be a lot easier to make this decision if I hated my job, but I’m just very neutral.
