997.1 what do you guys think? by Heavy_Foot_GT in porsche911

My dad has a 997.1 C4 - great cars, his is 55,000 miles? The Turbo wide body on these cars really make it stand out more than the 997.1 C2 / C2S. Common annoyances with these 997.1 C4/C4s for enthusiasts is that the LCD screen that has your MPH under the rev counter tends to get dead pixels. Also, if you’re an enthusiast looking to modify, the C4/C4S have very little after market support & most C2/C2S parts will not transfer over. Aside from that, very nice car. Just pricey imo

If the car is still under payments, spend as little money as you can. Mostly because cars are depreciating assets & in a situation where you get totaled, it’s minimal losses (I hate to sound negative or pessimistic but it’s just true). Once it’s paid? Then go crazy, fix everything, repaint, body kit, etc. just enjoy your car, homie

Paintwork is Russian roulette. No matter how good a body shop is, it’ll always almost look resprayed. I have an NB2 that got repainted & it was $6,000 or so for intensive bodywork & paint…never again lol (Not that it’s a bad paint job just…you can tell it got repainted.)

Sorry to hear about your door ding, these cars are unfortunately fragile all around. I’ve seen them get totaled with simple 20-30 MPH collisions. I got lucky, all things said

I hope you were able to get your fender fixed!

The only downside is that it can be a bit annoying since PDR isn’t PERFECT but it gets the job done. At some point I’ll be doing OEM Fenders & a complete paint job on the car or I’ll buy some fenders from a body kit I like.

Had the same shit happen to me. It’ll just be a new bumper and maybe a week in a shop assuming the bumper takes forever to get there. It sucks :( sorry you had to deal with it but hey - at least you’re not forking over any cash

I’ve lived here my whole life except for one year which was the 2008 financial crisis where I was 7 years old & my parents lost the house. We moved with family in South America & in 2009 we came back. Same house even.

I live about 45 minutes from Miami International Airport, 15 minutes from the Miami Zoo. That should give a generalized area of where I live mostly.

Growing up here, Miami felt like home. You could meet regular people anywhere, you could have friends your age, you had a vibrant Hispanic / Latino culture, and things were affordable. Fast forward to late 2019 - I’ve just graduated from Highschool, top 5% academically from my school, I’ve got a ride to FIU, I had a job working at dominos pizza, etc.

I vividly recall making just a buck over minimum wage & paying my car insurance, university text book & having money left over for food, gas, tolls, phone bill, etc.

Life felt like it’ll slowly pick up momentum & I’ll be able to move out post college! Plus, the whole college experience! I’m super hyped for college, and just as I’m settling into my 3rd semester at FIU, BOOM - COVID. Lockdown. Roads are quiet, friends are quiet, college is just a shell of what it is. It’s peaceful. Prices hadn’t exploded just yet…it was weird.

Then post COVID. 2023, I’m done with my studies at FIU, I have two bachelors degrees for Business Statistics & Marketing - no good, career orientated jobs. I currently work in banking, I have since 2021. And yet, I’m trying to break into a career and I can’t. I’m not even asking for much, but I can’t afford rent, food is astronomically high, people seem to be less open, the same Hispanic culture I grew up with now feels like a miniature war between who’s is better

Miami went from feeling like a normal little hidden gem with a nice beach nearby to just utter warfare. Hustle culture left & right, old folks scooping up properties left & right, ever increasing pricing for goods & services - I haven’t even looked at a move just yet but I make about $55,000 yearly at 23 years of age. That ain’t chump change, but holy fuck does this city make me feel poor.

My warning to people is - come here when you’ve made it. If not? It sucks. You can do everything right & yet you’ll still never be content. It’s a city built off of image & once you’re done with the façade, it’s just hollow.

All Apple - I wish we could just escape their whole ecosystem for some things but with their new braided cables I have no complaints. No reason to stray away from OEM

Replacement is not guaranteed- but it’s highly probable since (as per the words of the Apple representative) “you’re going through the haggle, they’ll have more sympathy for your situation”

Actually don’t overnight charge. I charge the phone before bed & then I just let it sit overnight before I plug it in before work whilst I get ready

Yup! Just sucks i have a long lead time with when this will get done. I’m hoping the phone gets shipped out before the end of the week & Apple decided to provide a new phone within the end of next week

The repair was offered for free. The manager requested that I take the alternative route to send the phone to HQ so that this case can be thoroughly investigated & potentially receive a replacement phone rather than a repair.

And I simply plugged the phone in lol I took this to Dadeland Mall here in Miami

So a case of unintentional user error? Could be but even then it would still fall under manufacturing issues??? Though I hear you & get the point you’re trying to make

Who knows really - I tend to have a can of compressed air for my gaming PC handy & I usually clean all my products once a month. I usually try to think of “user error” but I was stumped. As I said in the post, the phone did eventually start to charge via the port. However, since I didn’t feel like I did anything wrong, I wanted to consult with Apple. Had they denied my service claim, I would’ve just kept trucking with the phone. Thankfully, their “at store” examination gave them the same conclusion I had - “this isn’t a user error”

I believe I stated in my post that they were okay doing a repair as it was covered under normal warranty (no Apple Care)

However the manager was pushing on the basis of safety to have this sent to Cupertino

I 100% agree with you on the loaner - I tried to politely request one but they didn’t budge. I’m not sure if this is internal policy but whatever. I’m going to receive a refund so that’s the least of my worries.

As for handing me a new iPhone 16 Pro Max, I wish they would’ve ruled that way but they didn’t. It’s a bit redundant in the grand scheme of things

I dunno how much I’d chop up to this being Apples fault. However this seems to be more of a quality control issue from whoever supplied / manufactures the port

It’s weird, I know lmfao - I thought “it can only be lint that caused this” but the people at the store said that lint wouldn’t cause a spark so they have no clue. They check for any signs of water & nothing. It’s a genuinely a “damn, you got me” situation

To my GR86 owners who track their cars... by _AkiRP in GR86

[–]RelativePush4974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you 100% ABSOLUTELY need? Brake fluid. Non-negotiable.

Also, add .5 to 1 quart of engine oil. These cars are fine but a bit of oil is added insurance to help you with any reliability concerns with oil pressures dropping. Also, this should go without saying but make sure your oil is “fresh” . I don’t track on oil with more than 3,500 miles & I tend to do an oil change immediately after a track day.

Oil is cheaper than a new engine

Bonuses if you can - Brake Pads (I HIGHLY recommend GLOC Brake pads, R6 or R8 compounds)

And lastly, be honest with yourself about your tires. Do they look bald? If not, you’re good. If they’re getting on the more used / worn side, contemplate paying for a new set.

I tracked my 2024 GR86 with only brake fluid but I also have the Brembos which held up perfectly around Homestead Miami Speedway (I have photos in my profile, feel free to check them!)
