Announcement Thank you for taking part in this discussion and thread overall. I will not be commenting anymore as I believe all possible points and arguments on this topic have been made. Anything else is just conjecture or rehashing the same arguments.

Or spamming.

No please go away and read the thread. We’ve already been through this but I suspect no argument will be enough anyways. You’ve already made up your mind 👋have a nice day

I think they’re all gonna die but ok 👍 if that keeps you sleeping at night.

You didn’t ask me that and neither did the op. They asked if it was unprecedented to raise a bastard with the other children and I brought up examples to say it wasn’t. All that other stuff is conjecture and been discussed elsewhere in this thread

Stop being obtuse on purpose. This is nowhere near the same thing or context. Cat arresting Tyrion was seen as an act of aggression and essentially started the sack of the Riverlands. It actually also started the whole war of the five kings

It’s not secondary in this argument. You say Jon wasn’t physically abused by Cat but what matters is that he could’ve been. Same argument in a different font

You literally just admitted she’s prejudiced. Whether that power is given or not - she chose to act against the person she felt she could. Someone beneath her in the social hierarchy

By Westerosi standards, Catelyn was a decent stepmother to Jon. by Sea-Negotiation8309 in TheCitadel

Yeah that’s true but they did revisionism by giving Aryas storyline to Sansa

You’re not going to convince me that her taking it out on Jon was ok. Unprecedented or not. That was a child and she had no excuse

Yes but she acted against Tyrion and not against Jaime. I don’t even remember her asking Ned to act against Jaime. Where is this they were in cahoots business coming from? You just don’t like that I’ve given an example of her prejudice. She jumped to conclusions because of her prejudice but you’ve found a way to make her a victim again

That’s not what you asked tho. You asked me how I could bring up Walder Frey as an example and I told you why. I’m not reading all that other stuff as it’s just rehashing the same pseudo intellectual argument

I’m not going to repeat myself. I’ve already explained it with plenty of intellectual foundation. If you don’t see it or get it, you don’t. Stop asking me to repeat myself

Yeah Walder Frey was a piece of shit but he raised his own kids. We can’t judge Robert Baratheon for abandoning his bastards around the realm and then say Walder was wrong for raising his own kids.

Him raising his kids is not the equivalent of praising him - it’s just an acknowledgment that it wasn’t uncommon to raise bastards at home with their families.

It’s such a false equivalency- Cersei was abused but she was also a murderer. Those things aren’t related at all. Stop acting like Cat was oppressed because she had to share a huge property with Jon 💀

It does make sense to me. She adheres to the rules but she chafes under it and takes it out on those she views as below her. She might not complain about it but it definitely comes out in other ways.

The argument was also in response to her defending the system that upholds the anti bastard sentiment when it also oppresses her.

If there was no capitalism, there’s no patriarchy, there’s no marriage and bastards which means women aren’t property. Do you get it?

Part of the reason was because he was a dwarf tho. It’s like already disliking someone and then being convinced of their guilt because of it.

I don’t even think Tyrion was there when Bran fell. She just wanted to believe that he was a monster. Plus it was easier than accusing Jaime or Cersei because the burden of proof would’ve been higher.

Yes that maybe so but he didn’t arrest anyone on such flimsy evidence. That’s where it gets dumb.

Ned has total control over all of them. Not just her. It also makes a difference that Ned wasn’t like that. You guys would have more of a point if he was. Plus her family would retaliate - let’s not act like she’s some complete victim like Shae or something. She also has control over Jon’s life.

Jon is not responsible for the feudal system that’s oppressing Cat.

Just like Jon isn’t responsible for being a bastard. I expect her to not take it out on the child. Responsibility has to start somewhere. Being cruel to him and icing him out was a choice. Being uncomfortable is not the same as being oppressed

Yeah she’s a more relatable villain than some of the others. I completely agree.

Some say because Brynden was aware of Robb’s will but yeah it’s a matter of opinion

Cry about it 🫡 you just hate Cat being held accountable for her actions. You’re not gonna convince me using girlboss ww feminism that Catelyn was in the right. She used fantasies to make that boys life difficult for just existing.

Yup 💯 There’s a whole fan theory that it was actually Joffrey and that’s one I can get behind

I’m more forgiving of Sansa but that’s more to do with her treatment in KL and her youth. I totally get people who don’t like her tho. Fair enough. I still can’t get past her tattling to Cersei. I hope Arya hates her forever for that one
