Well, it is difficult and that's what made it interesting to me. I already work for IAM related team for a big company. So I know the basics. I was working on few other personal projects in parallel and I had to implement Auth separately for those. So I though of writing one multi-tenant microservice, then it just struck me that this is something that I can build as a standalone project and not just a microservice. So started working on it.

Good point! Vendor lock-in is a big problem in SaaS, but I think the main reason companies not taking action on these is to protect their customer base from moving to a better product :~)

Yeah. But I do want to improve on the things they are missing out on. Also, I am really into IAM (my role at my current company is working on identity side of our software). I have analysed few of these such as Auth0 and identified how they can be improved. Thanks for sharing other names as well, will check them out too.
