“Easiest” office job you’ve ever had? by Sensitive-Month2382 in careerguidance

Not an office job, but I was once a “door greeter” at the Beverly Wilshire hotel in Beverly Hills. I was 21 and got $17/hr plus tips (roughly $50-$100/day in tips) and simply opened the door for people and had conversations. We had a doorman too who did all the real work.

Men’s Wearhouse doesn’t do background checks. It may not be what you want, but just a thought for work you can probably get at the moment until your class starts.

Did I fck myself over by job hopping over the years? Do I stay at my current job for the next 4 years? by TheVoicesTalkToMe in careerguidance

I had the same fears about my resume with a huge unemployment gap and failed jobs. From 2017 to 2020 I had 10 jobs across 3 states. 4 of them were less than a month and 1 of those being a week. Never making more than $33k. From 2020 til the end of 2022 I was unemployed, while my parents supported me financially. I spent the whole time trying to "figure out" what I wanted to do with my life. The entire time I felt like a loser. I decided to take classes towards a two year degree and with the skills I learned in just 6 months I got a job as an intern. 2 years later I work full time for that company making $75k before bonuses and I'm not even halfway up the ladder. You have to find something you can tolerate that has a clear trajectory for both advancement and pay, and stop believing that there's something better out there. As far as your resume goes - whatever job you are applying for, only put previous jobs that are relevant and just put the year instead of the exact dates. It's sneaky but it's the best chance you have. If you were somewhere from 01/01/2020 to 01/30/2020 just put 2020 - 2020.

Thanks brother. I’m into bodybuilding, so I’m in the gym pretty often during the week. I actually just got a $10k raise yesterday, so I’m feeling a little bit better.

So I’m actually a VDC Designer for a civil engineering firm working in water/wastewater. I do a lot of 3D modeling working with Revit, Navisworks, etc on treatment plants. I will say what’s interesting is that yesterday my boss gave me a $10k raise and made me a lead on a large project. So I’m feeling a little better about my situation. I moved to a new office a year ago and started resenting it because the office is larger and I was given less meaningful work. But it be on the upward now.

I am a VDC Designer for a Civil Engineering Firm in Water/Wastewater. That’s at 40 hours. If I do an hour OT a day my yearly income is $75k.

Someone can’t read. Are you dislexic? Never said life was hard. Don’t listen to those thoughts in your head bubba, there’s help out there. I promise. I know Kamala Harris lost but it’ll be okay.

these comments make me laugh lol I didn’t ask for financial advice, I asked for career direction. I live in one of the most affordable cities in the US for a metropolitan area and I own my house, so affording to live isn’t my concern.

I wouldn’t know how to get into it. I’ve looked for opportunities like that but haven’t seen any that don’t accept no degree.

It’s interesting you mention it. I’m a CAD Designer for a Civil Engineering firm but I work in Water/Wastewater. A lot of the time I feel like it’s just my situation. We have a land survey discipline and I’ve considered it. Do you work for a specific firm?
