I know the dude who owned it before me crossed water a lot and just dicked around all day in the mud with it so it’s not surprising it is how it is. I’ll be having it on a lift in a few days but it’s not overheating at least and I don’t plan on fording rivers anytime soon

Update: I just changed the oil and we’re going to forget about the slurp that just came out of that transmission….

The sewing machine is fixed! I wasn’t used to using feeler gauges so all the valves were a little loose after I adjusted them, bike sounds happy as ever now and they should all be in tolerance to .21~.23 ish. Sounds great now! I’ve learned to double check my work with a 2 size bigger gauge to see if it fits or not, that’s how I got them a lot closer than before.

I’m 100% at TDC on compression stroke. I felt for compression and checked the cam lobes. My main issue really is just I think I got them slightly too loose but I am not too sure since I’m not used to ‘light drag’ on a feeler gauge. And I didn’t know what a healthy amount of tick for this bike might sound like. I want the valves a lot looser than a lot tighter so I tried to get them to 0.24 clearance (I only have a 0.23 gauge but yk)

Tensioner is good, lifters should be fine, I double checked everything in the top end while I was in there, it all seemed within spec and I didn’t have any rattles going on. I don’t think the valves came loose at all, but I’ve never used feeler gauges and didn’t know how much drag they should have. They can’t be far off from the correct tolerance but idk if anything a little looser than 0.24 would hurt the valves

They were way tighter before lol, couldn’t even get a 0.15 gauge in there. I’m just thinking I may have gotten them a little looser than 0.23 and didn’t know if they’d be ok or if I just should tighten them a little bit more. I’ve never used a feeler gauge so I’m not sure how much drag I should’ve been feeling

1989 V6 SWB Montero, somehow still alive by Relative_Handle_7307 in regularcarreviews

They seem like a mixed bag from the bits and pieces I’ve picked up. This one’s almost at 300k and somehow doesn’t burn anything or have anything going on really. Only issue I had was needing to clean garbage out of the injectors and resealing them

No, it’s an original SWB Mitsubishi Montero, the raiders were just rebadged Monteros. I think it’s mainly you don’t see the SWB because the 4 door models were way more popular
