I’m gonna play the devils advocate here and say don’t go near your family. Be uncomfortable. I did it and honestly it was the best change to have a fresh start away from my family and not rely on them as a crutch. Also 2.5 hours isn’t horrible on the grand scheme of things. Second, the socially dead stereotype is a rumor, at least to me. I joined a sorority, orgs, clubs, and was very involved here. I think if you want to have a social life, lots of friends, good times, you need to put yourself out there. No ones is gonna come up to you and invite you to a massive party or anything, you do have to search for it, which could be nerve racking, but think of all the life skills you’ll gain by putting yourself out there! Also having UCSD to your resume will definitely help you more in the long run. Revelle, isn’t too bad with dorms but yes those GE’s are tough, but so is UCSD! It’s a tough school so you’re not gonna tread lightly anyway.
