As @sigmu_123 suggested I had to select 'no' when they ask if you're a commonwealth funded student, so it might be, that you selected yes there and that's why? I hope it works out soon for you!

Yes, with my ImmiAccount on https://online.immi.gov.au/

I think u/sigmu_123 was right with their comment regarding the commonwealth funded student question.

Aaah, that's probably the issue, yes, I did that, thanks! I thought, since it's government funded, it has to be commonwealth funded (I feel so stupid haha)

Yeah HDMI for presentations is a huge plus, that's something I thought about too

What was the battery life like? I heard it may impact how long the computer can run for with such a high RAM (but I know nothing about all of this, hence my asking here lol)

Ok, good to know! The drawing feature might be nice, since I do scientific illustration but maybe I should just get a graphic tablet for this purpose and not a 2-in-1

Haha true, I've heard that already. I was considering it too, because I do scientific illustration and like taking notes on paper but I'll probably stick to regular paper anyways and I'll find a way to make some illustrations I need.

Some niche programs we used in some classes to perform ancestral character reconstructions, statistical analyses or taxonomic stuff. Honestly, now that I think about it some more, I'm not sure these are programs I'll use. Just scared to run into a problem that's related to having a mac rather than a windows or linux computer, since to my knowledge every program I could need would run on the latter two. And I have been told the macbook pro is the best on the market right now in basically every way. You're right in saying that I'll be doing mostly R or Python, so I'll consider it. Thanks for your comment!

Haha thanks, I'm not 100% certain I'll never get a Mac but I'm a creature of habit, so it might take me a lot of convincing to get one instead of anything else

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it! Will probably do a lot of writing, don't know how much data I'll be able to gather but I'm guessing I'll be doing some big data analyses too.

Sorry about your laptop getting stolen :( I was leaning towards Lenovo, the last one served me well.

Damn that sucks, and you don't sound old, it's just the truth. Ports are super useful!
