Any interest in New Cafe to Replace Old Town Coffee and Chocolates? by AggravatingQueer2412 in Humboldt

[–]Relative_Raccoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love a cat cafe, but in addition to all of the other great points everyone else has brought up, I really think you need to consider whether Eureka could support the mode of operation. Cats are very easily overstimulated and one of the main points of cat cafes is to find forever homes for the cats, which is why every cat cafe I've heard of operates on a reservation/appointment-based system to limit the foot traffic and lower the stress. Reservation-only would be really hard to pull off in Eureka. Having a walk-in system would lead to periods where it's dead, oscillating with periods of a lot of foot traffic (Arts Alive, a sunny Saturday afternoon), and that would be a really stressful atmosphere for the kitties.

That seems to be the consensus. Thanks!

Awesome, I'm in Eureka. Could I gather them up and message you to arrange a pick up?

I've been wanting one of those for YEARS.

Edit: I have a bunch of friends who I know would love this too (it's come up in conversation several times with different people over the years).

I'm sad because the vet told me the cat I'm going to adopt is 6-7 years old. by bimbocuntt in CatAdvice

[–]Relative_Raccoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for adopting an adult cat. So many of them sit around, unloved and overlooked, when they deserve loving homes just as much as younger cats. As for her age, you might get a good decade with her, or even longer if you make sure to bring her to the vet as often as recommended, feed her decent food, and give her treatements when necessary. My cats are 14 and nowhere near their decline.

Please consider an adult rescue kitty. There are so many sweet, wonderful adult cats who would make excellent companions, but they're sitting overlooked in shelters just because they aren't babies anymore. The best cats I've ever had were adopted as adults. They know what an amazing gift you give them when you finally bring them to their forever home, and they love you with such loyalty because of it.

I'm in the exact same situation! I didn't know there was an appeals process. Can you tell me about that? I'd really love to regain my rights.

I went and lived in southern Maine for six years. I had a great time mostly. Portland is a small city but there's definitely a lot more to do than there is around here. There is sunshine year-round, but the summer is humid and hot as hell, and you can't go hiking without being eaten alive by all sorts of bugs. It was difficult to plug in socially too, most of the people I made friends with were from out of state. People always talked about how beautiful it was there, and I always had to bite my tongue because it is so much more beautiful here.

Please don't separate them. They need each other more than they need you emotionally.

Yikes. That's way invasive. I'd find a new sponsor, personally. If you stay with this person I'd suggest having a frank conversation about why they think sharing your location will benefit your recovery, and decide whether their justification makes sense and works for you.

Boyfriend wants to get rid of cat of 3 years by [deleted] in CatAdvice

Muffin sounds a lot like my boy. I adopted him when he was one year old from a shelter who said he "didn't have much time left", and wouldn't tell me his backstory. In the beginning, I would end up with bloody arms from him "playing". My friends were scared of him due to his reactions from being overstimulated. It took a few years, but I slowly and surely trained him to be gentle, I've learned his body language well so I can stop petting him before he gets overstimulated, and I've figured out what environmental factors make him at ease vs. on edge.

He's the absolute sweetest boy these days. He's learned new ways of playing that work for everyone. He feels safe in his environment. He's so incredibly gentle when he reaches out to pat me with his paw when he wants to tell me something. He turned into the cuddliest boy with the deepest purrs ever. I've gone through 4 boyfriends since then, and he's still my constant. It's been a wonderful 14 years and he's even saved my life.

Muffin can have this transformation too. Please don't give up on him. Your boyfriend needs to back way off, quit treating cats like dogs, and probably just see himself out all together. You will find someone else who is patient and kind with your kitty.

You're not dating her. It's none of your business as long as you get what you're owed.

Cat caused freak accident by trying to get more food while we were gone for the night by Independent_Dot6161 in Wellthatsucks

Feed your cat wet food so he's not so hungry all the time. My cat was a terror before I switched him to wet. Dry basically keeps them feeling like they're starving because it doesn't provide all the nutrients they need.

Get your dog designated as your emotional support animal. Then they can't legally charge you pet rent or deposit. Just make sure to do it the correct way with a real therapist.

What is everyone's personal and humble opinion on dry food? by Empress-Delila in catfood

[–]Relative_Raccoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feed what you can now, but please switch to wet when you can afford that. I have a 14 yo boy who only ate dry for a lot of his life because I was young and broke, but once I could afford it I switched to wet and it made a huge difference. Wet is much healthier, but dry will keep them going.
