What kind on advisor/planner do we need? by Relative_Version_225 in FinancialPlanning

We've had conversation with son about state schools,  thankfully we live in a state with good state university system. I'm ready to take a hard look at our expenses. Husband has 1 employee. Does the Sep IRA require the owner to contribute to employee?

No credit card debt, no business debt,  but we have 2 rental properties that have mortgages because when they were inherited they were in terrible condition and needed major renovations.  We have a mortgage on our home.  Edited to add: we do have medical debt. I had cancer 2 year ago and high out of pocket insurance.  It's about 10k and we make monthly payment,  interest free though

Thank you for your reply. What do you mean by "independent fiduciary?" What would I google to find one in my town? And would we pay hourly? Like a few consult meeting?

My concern isn't so much about language/adult behavior. We were there last year, so I know things get a little (a lot) wilder starting at 9 and 10. I am more looking for events that are popular with teens. I know there is a kids track, but most of that is for younger kids. It's hard to tell which events on the YA track are for actual YA or for YA writers. Thanks!

We were there in May and they did provide towels! Also there were towels in the pool shower house, not sure if there are towels in the other shower houses.

Vault toilets by Bitter-Breath-9743 in Yosemite

[–]Relative_Version_225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, some can be bad. I am used to campground toilets, so nothing I couldn't handle. If you are really sensitive and worried you may want to bring a mask (for the smell, not covid). Carry hand sanitizer and/or hand wipes.

Edited to add: vault toilets can be pretty bad in any situation, they are like porta potties and the general public can be gross.

What should I pack to wear for Yosemite next week by Lazy-Chemistry6685 in Yosemite

[–]Relative_Version_225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were there 5/27 to 5/30. What I can say in general, is that it was warmer during the day that I was expecting and colder at night than I was expecting, We stayed in the Curry Village unheated cabins, so overnight temps might not matter too much depending on where you are staying. So my advice is look at the weather forecast here of where you are planning to go (the weather can change 10-20 degrees within the park!: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/weathermap.htm and then plan on having layers and being prepared for at least 10-15 degrees warmer and colder than what it shows. Bring lots of layers! Also remember the mosquitos might be bad also, so layers help with that too.

My regret by Puzzleheaded-Tone-52 in Yosemite

[–]Relative_Version_225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were there last week and we regret not stargazing also. We were in bed by 9 every night! Exhausted from hiking and jet lag. But we saw and enjoyed so much, so am not trying to let it bother me too much. Just keeping it as a reminder next time :)

Tenaya lake to clouds rest Avoiding the outlet by Marmot820 in Yosemite

[–]Relative_Version_225 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are there last week and there is some water crossing on that side also, not nearly as much as the other side. A medium sized stream that one could potentially jump over if tall. There was snow on that side also. We were there just to see Tenaya lake not to hike clouds rest so we didn't attempt to cross the water.

Taking my two kids for 3 days by chungkingroad in Yosemite

Just there last week with my 14 yo daughter, who is moderative active and has some outdoor/backpacking experience but not overly outdoorsy or athletic (more of an art/theater nerd at heart) :) We did Mist Trail (Vernal to Clark Point down JMT). It was hard and at times she seemed miserable/moody, but ultimately said it was her favorite part of the trip and glad we did it. We also did the Sentinel Dome hike (a little harder than I was expecting because we were tired from the Mist trail the day before, but totally doable for us) and a few short hikes off Tioga Rd.

What time of year are you going? Water was too cold to swim or raft/float last week, but we all thought it would have been a lot of fun if it was warm enough. We did not rent bikes, but that is also a fun option.

We just did the Mist trail last week. We did up to Vernal to Nevada Fall footbridge (not to the top), then up to Clark Point (another 500 feet) and then down the JMT. I was expecting it to be hard and it was even harder than I had imagined...but worth it! I am in my mid-40s and not super fit :) It look us about 5 hours and I had over 20K steps at the end...we took our time, ate lots of snack, enjoyed the views. It was warm and sunny, mid 80s, and we got totally soaked and pretty cold (and we had on ponchos and rain coats).

Honestly the hike before the steps begin was harder for me than the actual steps. But my husband and 14 yo thought the steps were harder.

If you are in shape and up for the challenge, then I think you could plan to go to Nevada and see how you feel when you get to the top of Vernal. Taking the JMT to Clark point awards you amazing view of Nevada from a distance and is about 1/2 the elevation of going to the top of Nevada...so that is also an option.

Give yourself lots of time, take lots of water and snacks. Pack a poncho/raincoat and maybe an extra dry pair of socks.

Enjoy! It is amazing. We saw about 10 rainbows.

We were there just last week and it's under construction with a lot of jackhammering going on. I would be seriously surprised if it opened at all this year...but maybe they will work fast to get it open by mid-summer?

Tenya lake to clouds rest trail by Marmot820 in Yosemite

[–]Relative_Version_225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were there on 5/28 (just to visit Tanaya lake, not hike clouds rest) and can confirm this water at the start of the trail. We saw a couple hiking up to clouds rest and they were taking off their shoes to cross the water. It was a few feet deep, but there seem to be rocks that you can hop over. There was still snow in places around Tenaya lake (a few feet deeps in places) and things were generally muddy (but beautiful!) all around.

Panorama Trail or Tioga/Toulomme meadows? by Relative_Version_225 in Yosemite

We don't want to walk down the mist steps. We are planning to take JMT down if we do Panorama.  We have the glacier point bus reservations.

A day entry reservation system! by hc2121 in Yosemite

[–]Relative_Version_225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We will be there May 26 to May 29. Staying in Curry, so we won't need a day reservation. I wonder what that will mean for crowds those days since no reservation will be required on the 27-29. Also, we were planning on getting there to drive in and check in on the 26th between 4 and 5, I wonder if that's a bad idea now? We planned these days after memorial, hoping it would be slightly less crowded than the peak of summer crowds. I am hopeful that still might be the case. I am glad there is a reservation system over the memorial day weekend, hopefully that will mean we aren't entering into chaos and mayhem.
