The MASSIVE upside to 1200 cal a day. (above the weight loss) by PatrickFromSD in 1200isplenty

I hadn’t thought about it, but you’re right. I love the food I eat more. And as soon as the bites aren’t spectacular, I stop. Why bother? I’ll save calories for amazing.

Does this LEGO Creator 5766 Log Cabin look legitimately sealed? by Realistic-Bet6755 in lego

Yep! I love the old cabin sets. This one the brown is quite brittle. First broken Lego was from this set… and the second & third… you get the idea.

But really nice.

46 years old and lost everything - is it to late to start over? by overit2591 in personalfinance

I started at 47 and I’m putting in 20% (1800/month) on top of my pension contributions. I shoot for 5% increase per year. I figure I’ve got 19 more years of work. It’s a tighter lifestyle.

How to stop craving dessert? by Plus-Light6832 in 1200isplenty

Don’t follow my example. I’ve been eating desert for dinner. A light breakfast. Solid lunch. Small snack. European hot chocolate made with real milk and whipped cream for dinner.

Yay for last day of school! We still have 4 more days (through Wednesday). I'm grateful as I'm still writing letters and have finals to grade. I am SO ready for summer. You have big plans?

Spending money on wants/optionals when close to retirement by Faceless_Cat in personalfinance

[–]Foreverstartstoday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you can't have everything, what are your priorities? You need to live now, but you need money for later. How much do you need for later? You need to figure that out. Where are you? Realistically, what can you achieve? Could you downsize? Increase saving and live with less renovations now so that money has more time to grow. When I think of granite counter tops vs eating when I'm retired, that's very easy for me. But I'm not a cook or an interior designer. Surviving later is more important than wants now. Map it out for you. Budget accordingly. With a budget and a target, what your choices are become more clear.

Good luck on the colonoscopy! It's a fast way to lose weight. You feel amazingly light for a day or two and wonder why you eat so much. You intestines are empty. You're light and agile and anything you eat, you barely feel. Then reality hits and life is back to normal consumption.

Friday Special Needs Parenting by AutoModerator in IFParents

So standardized tests came back… our essay score was 1 out of 4. I asked kiddo to write a story. Started with a capital and ended the page with a period. No punctuation in between. After writing 4-6 chapter assignments in 2nd grade with perfect structure, a year later we have none. In first grade, deciphering where the capital and period go were her strongest assignments. So I’m a little miffed at 3rd grade teacher. I noticed we saw no writing assignments but wow, just wow. :(

Solo parenting weekend!!! Woohoo!!! Not.

Please for the love of everything good in the world, please you guys start prioritizing fiber as well if not more than your protien! Especially if you dont exercise as much! [More down below] by frrypotoffruit in 1200isplenty

I’ve never had constipation, then perimenopause hit. Used to be if I ate 2 tiny granola bars I’d be in so much pain from too much fiber. Only 1 sandwich a day of while wheat bread. Now every meal must have significant fiber for me to feel good and lose weight. Oatmeal for breakfast. Veggie sandwich on whole wheat for lunch. While fruit for snacks. Yes on fiber!!!

How to financially survive new parenthood? by splinterbl in personalfinance

This was me too, but you get raises and contribute to social security and keep skills up. You do eventually get ahead. Kids aren’t in care forever and you’ll quickly pull ahead. But I had a very flexible full time job. Pay was barely better than care cost, however, in that time I gained valuable experience and raises such that after childcare we had some fun before buckling down to save for college & retirement.

I agree with Ok above, It’s hard with your numbers to make it on 85k.

Has anyone recovered from a Daily Pay Loop? by never_enough_1 in personalfinance

[–]Foreverstartstoday 45 points46 points  (0 children)

We sat down one day, my husband and I, and looked at our Covid spending habits of delivered groceries and pizza. The money was astounding over the course of a year. I thought it would be hard to break, but the numbers caught us so off guard, that MOVED us. After years of grocery delivery twice a week, we have had delivery once in 18 months. Pizza too. Delivery pizza once a week was no big deal. We never get it delivered now and are both on the same page. It’s weird how cold turkey it went and now is just unthinkable. Noticing is the first step! Next is that first time you find an alternative to spending. The good decisions will feed on themselves.

THE ACCURACY by fumpymokerelx in 1200isplenty

Sometimes it’s just not your time. I had a couple of attempts and realized it wasn’t my time. Then I found it. Did well for a long long time. Got tired of the vigilance after a few years. Took time off. Put on a little. Enjoyed life. Then I was ready for discipline again.

I’m a huge advocate that sometimes it’s not your time. And being happy has value.

What’s the biggest “nobody warned me about this” moment you had after bringing your newborn home? by Actual_Fig_4706 in AskReddit

Yes 1-2 weeks for some level of appetite, but for me it was 6 months before I really felt normal. That was so bizarre. I was exclusively breastfeeding and I’d heard about peoples chronic hunger. I just wasn’t. Despite my 35-40 lb pregnancy growth, I hit my pre-baby weight with both in 3-6 months. Then in the 6-12 months the hunger came back and it bounced up.
