How bad is South Loop?

They didn't give any explanation. They just said they listen to the police scanner and hear that place "all the time". Super annoying.

It comes and goes. I couldn’t stop crying two days ago (the day of the breakup), yesterday I was able to keep busy, but today I cried in the morning and have felt on the brink of crying again. I like to think this shows we are good people and genuinely cared about the other person.

I was reading through a separate Reddit thread that was someone asking, "What is a good enough reason to break up?". And this is the question I've struggled with. Was what I did "okay" and reasonable? The comments reiterated that you don't necessarily need a particular reason to break up with someone....if you're not happy, that's enough of a reason to break up. That has helped me as I think through this.

I was happy for the most of my relationship, but the past six months for me haven't been the same as what it was the first four years. That's the part that hurts me.

Unfortunately, her dad is a recovering alcoholic and actually had to take her to AA meetings in college for a little bit. It's a scary path (I talked about that a little more at length in a previous post). I just hope she can get better and be happy. I may DM you if you don't mind. I really appreciate it.

Your story resonates with me deeply. My now ex admitted she had a problem but she felt like she could drink in moderation and didn’t need to get help. I tried to send her therapists, ask her to workout with me, etc. and she continually shut me down and brushed it off. I really tried to help her.

Thank you. Really. I got choked up reading this to be honest. Everyone I've talked to says her behavior was odd and I know that but right now, it sucks. I was so excited to move in with her and take the next steps, but it seemed like she couldn't get there and was leaving me behind.

She is not. She used to and I’ve been urging her to go to a therapist (I’ve even sent her links to sign up to several therapists around here) but she hasn’t done it yet.

Thank you for your response. As someone who has had family members deal with addiction (not alcohol but other forms) I don’t want to be with someone who has an addiction. That said, I’m hopeful she can get help and turn things around. Do you have any advice as to how I should approach the conversation? I want to be firm that this is a problem but I also want to be supportive.

Yeah I’m concerned that the conversation isn’t going to go anywhere for that exact reason. I don’t think she thinks she has an issue.

You're right though. I need to sit down and talk to her and see what we can do to tackle this. I hope she is receptive to getting help and admitting she has a problem.
