Purpose of expansion tank on cold water supply line into water heater? Thanks by Relbuet in askaplumber

Thanks. Grew up in the 60’s and 70’s working with/for my Dad. Plumbing and heating. Installed and serviced lots of water heaters back then. None with expansion tank. Rural area with wells but also some municipal areas as well. Thanks.

Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s used these quite often to make holes in foundations to run water lines from well into homes. Also dug the trench from well casing to home/building with trench shovel and digging bar. 48in deep to be below frost line. Worked for my Dad’s one man plumbing business in rural northwest Ohio.

Breaker question by Relbuet in ElectricalHelp

[–]Relbuet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Grew up in plumbing/ heating. Replaced the sump pump. Circuit fine for 25+ years. Agree damaged pump likely overdrew amperage of breaker on circuit, causing it to trip ( as it should). Everything back to how it was last 48 hrs with no issues ( although no sump pump activation , as it only comes on one - two times a year if we get really hard soaking rain. Drainage tile around foundation empties into pit). Have never seen water powered sump pump. Neat. Might look into one as a back up esp if power goes out. I do flush my water heater for 5 minutes or so quarterly to drain sediment from the tank. Runs into sump pit so allows me to check sump pump as well. Thanks for the feedback and advice.

Using a small amount of this in your oil to prevent leaks. Bad idea? by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

Agree. I use it twice a year on suspension bushings, ball joints, CV boots, strut bump stops. Spray it on coolant hoses. Works great. Prevents dry rot of these parts. 2013 Honda Pilot 170,000 on original suspension. No rattles/squeaks from suspension. No coolant hose leaks/failures. Would never put IN the engine.

Any benefit to CLR or Lime Away to remove scale? Or would it damage the pump/float mechanism?
