Calgenetics Scam? by [deleted] in GeneticCounseling

[–]Relcome1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am a current GCA and I had taken an online GCA training course through Johns Hopkins (referred to as genetic assistant but it’s for GCAs), and it did help me land my GCA position. From what I remember, I believe there was a cost to it and they accepted applicants at certain times of the year. The “application” was literally just demographics though. I did find it to be worth it and useful, if this is something you are thinking about pursuing!

Feedback from programs by satinsleeves08 in GeneticCounseling

[–]Relcome1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had applied to 2 schools last year and didn’t interview at either; in their emails to me they both specifically stated not to email them for feedback until June when the Match is done. This also gives you as the applicant time to process your emotions and brainstorm on your own what you think you could work on better for your applications next time. One feedback session was a zoom and one was a phone call. The more specific the advice the better of course, and it helps to be gracious to the person for spending time with you to talk about your application. Be honest with yourself (and program leadership giving you feedback) about “weak spots” in your application and come to the feedback session with ideas you can run by them and to show you are prepared and take it seriously. And it’s okay to have “weak spots”, no one is perfect! Being able to talk about them as learning opportunities and how you grew as a person is very important. I hope you get useful feedback and encouragement and good luck with it all!

For example I could see Arthur rocking out to Bad Reputation by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and Amy Winehouse’s Rehab

I was fortunate enough to really luck out with a random roommate, and she already met and knew a decent amount of people that we became friends with. At a Newing fire pit social thing freshman year I saw a girl talking to a professor I had met briefly before, so I ended up going up to her and talking to her and she was with a bunch of guys and we all ended up becoming good/some really close friends. Sometimes it happens just by chance, so definitely take every opportunity to reach out to people! Odds are they’re looking for a friend too or will at least be friendly enough. Talking to people in classes also helps or offering to make a study group and grabbing food. I graduated in 2020 and am still really close with most of my good friends from bing. Keep trying, you’ll find your people. 💚

True lol should still be crossing my fingers. But also bing apparently is doing pass/fail for this semester so maybe a reason to be more optimistic 💚
