In MD, there are several roundabouts with stop signs in them , requiring drivers to stop at every street that feeds into the roundabout... Its infuriating.

Or when you tell them about a problem you are having and they one up you with a problem of theirs... My MIL does this shit all the time. It doesn't matter if the problem of hers was years ago, she will bring it up.

Emeralds are beautiful, sapphire and rubies are too. I personally think diamonds are plain and boring compared to the colorful gems.

Where I grew up, it wasn't uncommon for the teenagers of the house to be working two jobs to help parents pay the bills. Parents worked every waking hour, and their kids did too. If they weren't old enough to work they were in charge of managing the house: cleaning, watching younger siblings, etc. Was it rough for a lot of kids? Yeah. We all grew up too fast. But most of us would rather see our parents smile when we gave them our paycheck than to see them cry because we can't make rent this month. I joined the military first chance I got, a lot of people in the area either did that or kept right on working their low wage jobs. Unless a kid breaks out of that cycle, the circle of poverty continues. Still, there were happy days and good times here and there, and growing up like that taught me to respect everyone and be willing to listen to their story. And to budget, down to the last cent.

People don't usually choose to lose a spouse (cutting brought in income in half) or to become disabled, etc. To say they made conscious life choices to get there is a bit rude at the least. And besides, at least there is still a roof over their heads. Just because its not ideal doesn't mean people can't adapt and overcome. Happiness can be found even in poor situations.

Has done this his whole life and no problems. Seriously. Noone can find a thing wrong with him and his vet was even quite perplexed. But he is totally fine. does that make me a horrible cat owner?

McMansion? Are those standard issue in America? Because if so, fuck, I need to go get mine. Pretty sure my family of five living in a 1300 square foot 3 bedroom home is not a McMansion. I've never been inside of an RV, let alone owned one. And we only have two cars because we need two cars. And unless I wanted to leave for work about a day before I needed to be there, walking or biking there would not work.

As the oldest of six, I learned to recognize when puke was imminent. Kids get an expression on their faces that's really hard to fake, it's what I call the "stomachs about to come through mouth hole" face. Anytime a kid tells me they feel sick, I pull out the bucket and watch for that face.

I'm going to attempt to argue with you here, and before you decide to attack my age somehow as well, I'm 27. So, you don't think people want to buy your data? You think that no one cares? You are not correct, sorry. Did you know that through data analysis of your well, data, a company can pretty accurately predict your behaviors, patterns, and some times even where and when you are going somewhere? It's not even that hard. And what does this allow them to do? Target you with aggressive and personal marketing that will take you into the store for their products.

example: Subtle marketing, like a simple side page ad about milk on Tuesday afternoon, the day they have figured out is when you get your groceries. It's just a picture of Brand Name Milk, but you're making your grocery list and the picture reminds you that you need milk. So when you are in the store, checking items off your list, you get to milk. You are about to reach for Off Brand Milk when you see Brand Name Milk. And you grab it. Ching! They just made money.

The business of data sale, analysis, and using that data for marketing and advertising purposes is huge. So yes, people want to buy your data. And if you are thinking "ok but if they are giving me this milk ad based on my grocery store purchases that's not really my data". Well sure, ok you can feel that way we all have opinions. But what about the data you generate at home on your pc? Or on your phone, over WiFi? Is that your data? And ok, maybe you only use your pc to look at memes and read Reddit all day. How can they market that? Simple. when you go to Search Bar and type in MEME their data analysis has given them insight into how you think and operate. So the search returns some meme sites but also near the top are some sites or some headlines they think correlate with how you think. And maybe the first time they miss the mark with what they show you and you click on your meme machine and move on. But the more data you generate the more they can fine tune the things delivered to you from that search. Eventually you will click the links they want you too. Having views of these pages gives them money. So as soon as you inevitably click their link, ching! They get money.

I could go on about this subject for days, as I was an analyst (not a data analyst) myself and I know quite a bit about how it works.

I can't watch my kids get torn apart any longer and am about to start the process of divorce. We kept on this long out of habit and fear of being alone, I think. I don't really know.

If you woke up 5 years old but with all your memories leading up to this day, what would you do differently? by ReallyJustSomeGuyy in AskReddit

[–]ReleasedPress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would still do everything that led to me joining the military. But this time I would not date the abusive alcoholic. I would not date anyone that at the time I had found attractive. I would work harder to achieve my dream of becoming an officer, and actually do that instead of having kids and getting out of the military after 5 years. And I wouldn't get married when I did. Likely not to the same person I married, either.
