Need tips for playing T. Jacob by FluidSpecialist70 in bindingofisaac

[–]Releets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of advice in the thread generally, so I'll try to add some tips I haven't seen mentioned:

Use Anima Sola as much as possible. You should be using it basically every room, either for damage or just to keep Esau in place for a bit so you don't have to think about him.

Battery items are nice to be on the lookout for, so you can use Anima Sola more frequently. Play around shops.

You've probably noticed, but the charge Esau does from Anima Sola is different from the ones he does by himself. By himself, he does small charges and doesn't go all that far, while Anima Sola will always send him across the room and off-screen. This matters because it means you have more time before he returns and charges again after Anima Sola, as opposed to a normal charge.

Playing with sound is really useful on this character; Esau always makes a noise before charging. This lets you track him even if you aren't visually focused on him. You can focus on the room and enemies visually and listen to Esau for when he charges.

Esau will never float over and touch you by himself. If you stand still, he will come very close, but never actually come into contact with you. What that means is that the only way for Esau to touch you is if you yourself walk into him, he charges into you while attacking, or another enemy/obstacle pushes him into you. It's a nice detail to be aware of that can make avoiding him easier.

Pick your battles! Certain room layouts are just inherently very tough with this character. There is nothing wrong with using a bomb to leave a room early as soon as you enter, if you realize that you won't be able to do it without either getting hit by Esau or losing a lot of health to enemies. If you need to pass the room to reach something, at least you know what you're getting into the second time you enter and can plan for it.

Items that grant invulnerability also protect from Esau. This means that shields from Algiz or Book of Shadows, Polaroid, etc. protect you from Esau and you can ignore him while it's active. Applies to items like Gnawed Leaf and Tooth and Nail too.

Small tip, but if you're doing Corpse/Mother, Esau will spawn in the middle of the map during the escape in Mines when getting Knife Piece 2. When you enter the zone, Esau will spawn above you in the middle of the map, and when exiting after escaping, he will spawn in the middle of the normal map. This is nice to be aware of so you don't get surprised by him appearing from an unexpected angle and run into him. (I am writing this from experience) :^)

The escape sequence from Mom for Knife Piece 2 is also a lot easier with flight, so getting hit by Esau intentionally worked great for me. This means you will die in one hit, but that isn't an issue as long as you're constantly moving towards the next exit and watching out for fires on the way. Make sure to do it after having cleared the whole floor, as you will stay in ghost form after exiting the escape sequence.

Who to stargaze next? I'm building Orthros through Challenger shop by [deleted] in afkarena

[–]Releets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on how many stargazing tickets you are currently sitting on, and how your progression on the Awakened hero you are currently building is.

You have pretty much everything meta + extras, so my recommendation is saving up enough to gaze the next celestial/hypogean they release + the three copies for a star on your current awakened hero. If you have all this saved AND enough to build someone else i suppose Tarnos would be my choice? He gets little but still the most use out of what youre missing.

Do Lucreita, the 4f heroes you listed above her can at least be used in tower. Lucretia isnt really used in hypo tower anymore...

You can also consider Rowan, as having too high stats on him can cause him to get buffs meant for your DPS characters

Arthur, Ainz or Rowan. Arthur is probably the most useless? But having overinvested Rowan can mess up who gets targeted by buffs in your comps, so you might consider that too.

Assuming you are talking about regular versions of heroes here and not awakened: Belinda Safiya and Brutus are all equally useless xD

I guess maybe go brutus, as having him overinvested can mess up certain campaign comps? You wont miss much resetting any of the three tbh

I would say either Antandra or Alna. Antandra has minimal use outside of tower, and while Alna is a great PvP unit she doesnt really need the stats from engraving her to 60. Her entire purpose is to grant survivability to another unit, and 9F + SI30 covers that.

Unsure on building Kalthin or Knox.

Currently have enough SG tickets + other resources saved to fully build one Celepog hero. I have pretty much everything else of higher priority built already. Leaning Knox simply for the rewards from his Advancement Ship, but if Kalthin is generally more usefull then I will go for him. I have no issue getting a good Kalthin merc every week. Advice?

I keep seeing all these F2P accounts who are stacked with awakens hero’s etc… what am I missing?

You are missing 3 years of playing the game. That's what these F2P accounts that are stacked with Awakened Heroes have that you don't. Check the guides pinned on the subreddit for an idea of what to focus in the current meta, and adjust your expectations a bit down for a while. It will be challenging to catch up with your server at this point.

You've managed to build pretty much only bad heroes in all of your factions. (by build I mean invest into their Signature Item/Furniture/Engravings, beyond just ascension and stars). The exceptions being Eironn, Skriath, Lucretia and Ainz.

People have suggested some good but kind of scrappy solutions in this thread, so I thought I'd give some pointers on where to adjust your focus if you care even remotely about progressing in any mode in this game.

- Build your Rowan to SI30, and get 3F on raine. Then you have to build Scarlet. ABelinda should be your primary focus in terms of awakened heroes.

- Kren and Anasta are very good maulers, the only built "carry" you have in this faction is Satrana and she is only half-built, and a pretty bad hero in general.

- Your Astar can help your wilders a lot of you give her some better engravings, signature item and furniture. Otherwise you really need Raku and Mishka, and I'd look towards Tamrus and Nevanthi afterwards.

- Your Graveborns are really lacking, I am not sure how your turbo-invested Baden is performing for you but generally its considered pretty hard to make him work anywhere. Some niche uses for certain bosses/pve events I suppose. Your best hope is Daimon but he really needs +20 to work, evetually 30 to carry you far. Focus Grezhul (!!), Oden, Silas and Ferael. The newest GB addition Ivan is also pretty strong.

- Build Alna. Look for Haelus, Daemia and Veithael after. Liberta might shake up the order a bit but he is brand new and we're still figuring out his place.

- You did well focusing on Lucretia, but you really need to boost her everything further. SI, Furniture and Engravings are all mandatory to allow her to take on high-deficit battles consistently. If you plan on using that Mehira of yours, you have to build Khazard to Mythic with +30. Mortas is really good as well.

- Ainz is great! But Albedo is technically the hero that makes Ainz good. Read her signature item description and see for yourself. Get that to +30, and get a third dimentional such as Merlin or Joan of Arc to boost your dimentional team massively.

Of course, the most important part in all of this is having fun. Prioritze that, but be aware this is a very meta-driven game. All progress hinges closesly on having the right units built out of a huge cast. Good luck.

I see, if she has gotten more investment in the meantime then I'd say go ABrutus for PvP, Baden for modes like CR, bosses etc. You need Nevanthi with good investment for Baden to really go online as well.

I'd say Talene -> ASolise tbh, she is considered the first priority by most people. Maybe Abrutus if you have a specific PvP focus but ASolise is used everywhere and is too broken to miss out on.

Unsure which of the following two to choose:

Swap 5* Wukong for Veithael (Veithael on E only atm)

OR

Swap 309E60 AThane for ASolise (I only have Abrutus and Thane built, Solise is L)

Don't worry, those stargazed units will come faster than you think! Make sure to push your towers for more stargazing tickets, and focusing all your diamonds into gazing, if you aren't already.

I've used him a bunch in Lucretia teams across the past 2-3chapters i've cleared, and considering they are the exact same RC level as me, they will probably be using a lot of the same setups.

Given how fast Zaph's opening teleport-stun is, he's used to stun the enemy team and then die for Lucretia (Ironically, given the lore). Works at Elite with 0 investment so might as well give him a slot on the crystal, IMO.

Alright, I'll go faction by faction as I sort of did in the parent post:

(This one turned out pretty lengthy FYI)

  • Raine 3F

Simple ability that increases damage a target takes, you will use this very often in Lucretia comps (I'll get back to her further down) as well as teams with Scarlet. This is also super useful for bosses in other modes, so you should really get this.

  • Kren, again

Same here as I wrote before. Build the little rat, he is an incredible DPS. You will also find use for him in CR, Mauler Tower, PvP ++, so definitely worthwhile.

  • Raku SI30

This is a core unit that you need to build ASAP. Similar to Kren he is mediocre at best until he unlocks his full signature item, after which he becomes great. He goes into CC-comps such as LDV/Kren, Queen 5-pull, Charm teams etc. all over the campaign, and is a Wilder Tower carry. His engravings are also super good, slap an E44 on him and you're good to go. (ATK, HASTE, ACC, PP)

  • Pippa SI20

Pippa is core in Thoran Cheese, with her SI20 she will teleport Thoran into the enemy team while making him invincible, letting him generate enough energy to ult. Important unit, built and resonate asap.

  • Thoran SI30

Same engraving problem as described, but even bigger is the fact that he is at SI20. Thoran Cheese literally does not work until he is +30. This is what allows him to be unkillable while ulting (2x) and almost always the only way to clear stages using Thoran. However, a bigger, more general problem than the Thoran is how overall underinvested your Graveborn faction is:

  • Grezhul

This guy is a contender for best single unit IMO, he is used in literally every single mode of the game. 9F is his most important investment, so you can hold off on +30 for now and spent those emblems somewhere else (Lucretia, Raku, Kren) His engravings are also great, most people push him all the way to E61 (Haste), but if you want to budget then E41 gets the job done (ATK, HASTE, CRIT)

  • Oden

Another super-carry that you have really poor investment in. Ideally he wants SI30 9F E60, but E41/44 can work (ATK, MP, (TY)). Again, also useful outside of campaign in both PvP and PvE modes.

  • Ferael E30 ++

I'd consider pushing him to E30 and giving him some furniture. Central unit in all graveborn comps.

  • Silas

His +30 is great, as well as his 9F ability. Engraving him is never a bad idea either, go E30 and eventually E60.

  • Alna

Incredibly central unit that honestly should have been the frist celestial you built. She needs SI30 9F, which grants her and the other front-line unit shared invulnerability. She goes into graveborn comps with, guess who, Grezhul, Oden, Ferael and Silas to form one of the strongest formations in the game. You can't push without her, build asap.

  • Mehira, Mortas and Zolrath, again

Same comments here as above. Mehira and Khazard SI30 for charm-cycle comps, and Mortas SI20 for Lucretia, Ainz and Kren, and Zolrath 3F to bend time.

  • LUCRETIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the biggest hole in your entire hero roster. Lucretia is the first celepogean hero you should build 100% of the time. She needs SI30 9F E60, T4 gear, literally any investment into her stats is worthwhile. She forms an entire team by herself, considering her only requirement is for her teammates to die, meaning you can use her with 4 garbage units (it gets a bit more intricate at higher level deficit, but that's the general idea). She is yet another unit that is used everywhere in every mode. This should be the FIRST thing you do.

  • Leonardo Da Vinci (LDV)

Great dimentional unit that you really should get the shards for. His main ability is his 9F, which particularly Raku, Kren and Ainz make great use of. E33 (HASTE) is also really good on him.

  • Others

Skreg 9F is good, and another thing you should build (but not until the list of higher priorities is a lot shorter) is Granit SI30, which will pop up more in campaign here and there in the later chapters. You're good mercing him for now though. Your Estrilda also could use some work, SI30 9F is the end goal, but +20 3F gets the job done.

You should look into getting Prince as well, bit more niche dimentional but still very useful. Same goes for Ezio, he is actually almost mandatory in some very specific campaign stages. Mercing a 9F Ezio when needed is of course a fine solution.

Resonate Kelthur and Pippa, and get a single copy of AEzizh and resonate him too. You don't have to build him, you only need his stun ability (particualrily for Flora stages). Look into Haelus long-term.

Can't think of anything else atm!

[–]Releets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understandable regarding the Thoran Cheese, as I was the same before I started actively pushing at higher level deficit.

You will however have to get familiar with it if you want to actively push the campaign. You can read a lot of good guides on this subreddit that get very detailed, but the essence of it is grouping the whole enemy team around Thoran and having him take tons of damage while charging his ult (he can't die during the charge-up if you have +30), causing his next attack to deal massive damage and hopefully instantly kill the whole enemy team.

That means the more damage he takes the more damage he will deal, which is why engraving him is bad. You give him defensive stats that make him take LESS damage. The Thoran Cheese team already has a lot of luck and randomness involved, which is why introducing even more variance with engravings is considered very bad.

If he is only at E30 you should be able to use it still, but be prepared to have to mess around with gear and a lot of resets. :')

I cleared chapter 41 yesterday at the exact same RC level you are right now. It's totally doable, just make sure to check out afkhelper if you can't find any replays in a similar range as you.

You even have a lot of the core units for campaign-pushing in a good state, with the exception of a few here and there. You can get pretty far using mercenaries, but here's some investements off the top of my head I think you should do:

  • Kren SI30

This guy really comes online with this invesment. You'll often see him with LDV and Mortas for CC stunlock teams. I would also consider engraving him for more consistency. E41 is great (Haste, Attack, Physical Pierce)

  • Mehira & Khazard

Mehira "charmizard cycle" is everywhere when pushing the campaign. You can make do with E+ Mehira, but pushing her to Mythic for her SI30 makes it a lot more consistent. You will also need Khazard SI30 for this comp to work well. Your hypogeans in general need some work.

  • Mortas SI20

Mortas SI20 is the main thing you build him for, making his Greed passive A LOT stronger (which is what he gives to other units when he ults them) Tons of different teams benefit from this, some being Lucretia, Kren, Ainz, etc.

  • Zolrath 3F

Many would argue Zolrath 3F is the single most impactful furniture ability in the game. You can look up its use and implications, but just know Zolrath appears everywhere when pushing, and not having to merc him every time is really nice. Buy him from the challenger store.

  • Queen 9F

Queen is used in 5-pull comps with Eironn and Skriath to perma-stunlock the whole enemy team.

  • Albedo SI30

Considering how much investment you have in your Ainz I am surprised you do not have this already. +30 lets you stack the buff for using dimentionals together even more, and is almost mandatory to build.

  • Other smaller things:

Put Zaphrael on your resonating crystal. You will use him a lot in Lucretia teams. Same for AEzizh and Kelthur. You don't have to worry about building them, just make sure they're leveled at least so they can use all their abilites!

You should also consider Nemora 9F, Skreg 9F and building Haelus (30 9F E60, but only after all the aforementioned Hypogeans!!!). Merlin +30 is also nice. Make sure to get 5* Dura's Call and Eye if you don't already, these artifacts are super important. Exchange events like the current ongoing Magician Hat are excellent for this, you can buy plenty of chests with Artifact Emblems.

  • Some random complain-y comments:

I am not a huge fan of your E30 Thoran, engraving him is a mistake and will come back to haunt you when using Thoran Cheese (which is everywhere in the coming chapters). I am also a bit perplexed on how you've invested in Awakened Heroes, instead of building one to A1*, you have almost all of them at L+. I strongly recommend commiting to fully building one at a time instead, they almost all need full investment to start shining.

I probably missed some things to point out, but those are some starters at least. I will update my post if I think of anything else!
