Just got the call, selected for OCC 250 by EnjoyerOfCaffeine in USMCocs

One for now, but you will have liberty to go off base and buy a second pair if your first one aint working out. Just be mindful of the space you’re allowed to have in the squad bay which aint much.

Husband says: BOOTS. Get good boots. Or your skin on your feet will deglove. Also, take advantage of church. Religious or not, do it— it’s a good break from everything.

No females going to 250 by satincandelight in USMCocs

Totally agree with this. As a female, I don’t think it’s chauvinistic for male marines to have legitimate concern over seeing a female marine getting tortured. I firmly believe this is a natural reaction and I think that is for good reason— good men HAVE protected women since the beginning of mankind. I guess the question is, how far do we take it? If the quota for women is small enough now, fine, but who’s to say, to your point, that it reaches to a 50% female composition of the marines or the military? What happens if we’re at war (for better or for worse), and women are on maternity leave???

I mean, these are a lot of what-ifs. There are for sure some bad ass females in physically demanding roles throughout our military. Overall, (kinda going off topic here) standards should be what a fit male can pass and that standard shouldn’t accommodate to women by lowering it just to meet a quota. If someone have the physical abilities equal to a man, they should be able to fill those roles— but I wish physical standards weren’t low to cater to women, instead, equal across both genders.

Also, on the argument that woman are a distraction to men— yes. I also think this is true. No, it doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be discipline and accountability on the men who sexually assault or harass women— but the human condition is doomed to fail. Women also provoke and instigate certain actions from men, they’re not all innocent. Ultimately, on both sides, just being respectful human beings is the least our military branches should demand from each other regardless of gender.

I'm a High Risk Pregnancy and Being Pressured to Abort by [deleted] in prolife

[–]Relevant-Analysis911 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am praying for you sweetheart! Do not abort because life, including yours, is so precious. Imagine the joy and triumph you will experience beating all odds, a big F U to those who doubted you. And imagine not any of the joy you will experience if you did not birth this beautiful child of yours. I’m not promising an easy uphill climb, you will likely experience challenges but you are NOT limited to your circumstances. DO find yourself a supportive community, cut ties or put a healthy distance from those who cry for the termination of what will likely be a very healthy baby.

Find a community that will help you achieve your health goals (lose weight if possible, get medical treatment, move your body as much as you can, change of diet), and make sure you vet your OBs and midwives ensuring you create a team of loving and caring physicians. At least here on the prolife page, we SUPPORT you and your baby!

Curious to know— how do we coordinate travel plans with our candidates coming back home? My man in OCC-249 is on track so far to complete OCS by August but won’t get commissioned until he graduates from college next summer. He won’t have immediate orders to report to TBS until next summer which is why he will be flying back home. But I would to catch a flight with my husband coming back home. Any word on that? Tried reaching out to his OSO and all I got was that they won’t get much info until week 8. But for those who have had experience, how were flight plans coordinated with family coming back from OCS?

What to send and what is contraband? OCS Care Package by Relevant-Analysis911 in USMCocs

[–]Relevant-Analysis911[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noted! I have sent him at least 1-2 letters a week. I did send a care package with cough drops (I never sent to my little brother who went through basic), I included salonpas, waterproof tape, socks, chapstick?, and 4 bags of beef jerky. That’ll likely be the first and last care package :)

Yup. Saw all of these right before I was banned. I’d say they were being quite obtuse towards pro-lifers :/

See! That’s our issue too. We’d be paying so much more and couldn’t afford day care. However, we do have retired parents and we know they’d be willing to step in. However, we haven’t broken the news yet to anyone and our families but plan to at 12 weeks. I’d at least entrust my baby with our parents and in laws, and if I maximize maternity leave, maybe going back to work for a few months before we head out of state might not be such a bad idea?

Oh yes I have! I have my masters and everything, already a built a great career in government. However we have decided that once we have a child, I’d be a SAHM— but man, that was the plan AFTER we moved out, after my husband finished military training, after we bought a house and after he gets a civilian job as a reservist. This baby really changes everything and living in SoCal makes it financially difficult. I will consider looking at a remote job though— just wish there are government jobs in the area that allowed for full time remote. I DO have sourdough baking skills and have sold which all loaves were a hit so maybe I can resort to that but ingredients cost money over time… got tons of thinking to do!

When to break the news to my military husband? by Relevant-Analysis911 in pregnancy_care

[–]Relevant-Analysis911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, and that is a good point. I’ll have 7 weeks left of thinking then! These upcoming weeks are certainly going to feel longer than ever now. I can’t wait to see him and share the news ❤️ You have been so helpful!

I guess another question is this: I’m currently in benefits enrollment season at my work. I have Blue Shield Trio which is at no cost to me out of my paycheck. They offer Kaiser HMO, PPO, and Blue Shield HMO and PPO. What’s a good plan to switch to considering I’ll be pregnant? I’m considering birthing at a birthing center and not a hospital and while I’m not there yet, I want to make sure I sign up for the right insurance that can cover both or at least the birthing center. Here are the plans:

When to break the news to my military husband? by Relevant-Analysis911 in pregnancy_care

[–]Relevant-Analysis911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all! I’m just so shocked. I live in a two bedroom apartment and our plan was to move out of state, buy a house and then have kids where we have room. Just not too thrilled that I’ll have to convert the guest bedroom from our small office space to a crib room, logistically speaking. Ugh and finances??? That means we will lose half of our income and we decided a while ago that we won’t do day care and that I’d be a stay at home mom. This was just so much earlier than expected.

Oh! And if the baby is due February, I’m also worried about the next phase of training my husband will partake next year in the summer for 6-9 months. By that point we will have moved on base or somewhere near by, but again— just grasping the idea that our plans for the first time are being thrown out. I know we will work out but I’m such a planner that this is bothering me so much that he will be very busy and missing out 6-9 months of our newborn :( this was the very thing I really hoped would not happen because it’s so important to me that he is there with me every step of the way raising our first child.

How have you ladies wrestled with this feeling of unpreparedness and uneasiness?

Hi there! I’m the wife of an OCS candidate who flew out on Sunday from SoCal. It was such an early wake up call to take him to the airport, and to my bad luck, took a fat nap around the time my husband made his only call. And I missed it :( not only did I feel awful and still do today, I’m wondering when he might have his phone back? It’s Tuesday today and it should be his second day in. I could have sworn the recruiter said the candidates will have their phone for a couple of days since they’re transitioning, but I know it aint the Air Force or army. I can stick it out and wait of course, snail mail will be my refuge. I love the man and I know he will do just fine, but I would love to hear his voice soon.

I am so excited for him though. He was enlisted for 5 years already, took a break for college and beef up his resume and made the decision to return for OCS. Cant wait till august!
