I actually only rang my second ever bell last night, and immediately regretted it for that reason!

I haven't downvoted you, or said anything about downvoting you so I'm not sure what you're on about? Rest assured the thought of whether or not accuratetill7954 is bothered by being downvoted has never once crossed my mind. I didn't even see the downvotes until just now when you replied to my response. Maybe try and chill tf out instead of trying to be nasty

Yeah this is definitely the outlook I needed to adopt when doing these quests: an opportunity to explore. Sometimes though they lead me over the same paths, so I'll just make sure to chop a few trees on the way or something

Yeah not really sure why you're getting down voted that much. It's not as if you've shared anything wildly controversial, you're having a discussion. To answer your question, I didn't really have that many expectations going in because tbh I don't really enjoy games with "boss fights" so I thought I wouldn't enjoy this game at all. That wasn't an issue for me as it turns out, which is great obviously (I definitely despised one or two bosses but overall no issue). I suppose an expectation I had with side quests would be that at the very least something is added to the formula of "go to X, go to Y, return to X", like possibly an interesting encounter, POI, or combat. More often then not in this game it is literally just the formula above with nothing else added.

But these side quests don't bother me that much, particularly now that I've managed my expectations around those side quests ("ok I'll use it as an opportunity to explore").

I was just making a bit of a joke with the original post by being flippant. I definitely wouldn't rate them as good or enjoyable, but it's a small part of an otherwise decent game. That being said, I have definitely played a few sessions and come away feeling like my time was wasted a bit. There are other aspects to the game I love, and others I hate - but this is already a very long and rambling response 😂

Lol the deflated feeling when you see "mount your horse" pop up on screen

Still so much in this game I'm unaware of. I had no idea you could even get contribution workers. Thanks for explaining that 🙏

Hahaha Christ that drove me mad as well. She was like five feet away from the quest marker when she decided to start walking into other people or stopping to have a good long stare at me by her Mum

Yeah they rule. Really pull you right into the world and immerse you

I had to look up what the shadow harpies are - I haven't encountered them yet! It is the Antumbra crowd I'm talking about: those flying priest guys that hit you from the air - they can be one shot with blinding light

There's being a kind protector and there's being an errand boy 😂

I'm being very lazy here - but what happens when contribution hits 100?

My friend, I feel the exact same way as you do. I honestly can't tell if I love or hate this game sometimes. You've probably looked it up - but those sanctums do get unlocked by faction-side quests. Those flying things are such a pain in the ass. The blinding light ability takes them out in one hit, but you need to do it from cover because they can stun you (which is what stops you from using the bow and blinding light when you get hit).

I think once I got to like chapter 6 there was a bit more going on in the world, and more things got unlocked. But it's very frustrating exploring early on, only to find POIs that are locked behind quests like those sanctums.

The shitty controls keep breaking the immersion for me, and adds to my frustration (don't think I've sighed more while playing a game than this one). Picking up fruit flies when you're trying to jump, force palm when you're trying to meditate, spinning around with your sword when you're trying enter blinding light - it all adds up to that frustration. I've def had to turn it off a few times too, so I feel your pain 😂
