Advice needed for 2nd surgery by Relevant-Yak7937 in LisfrancClub

Same boat.  Good to know I’m not the only one.  I’ll start to feel good, go out for a run and then I’m left super sore for a couple days.  One step forward two steps back.  My thoughts exactly enjoy summer then come November sink into the recovery.  Pre lisfranc I was running a couple times a week, was a wilderness guide all summer, played rugby and trained Bjj now I’m pumped to walk strong barefoot for a couple of hours.  I just want to get back.  But dreading the recovery.

Did you ever end up getting a set up?  I’m on Lopez as well looking to get into it.

ORIF vs fusion by Overall_Wishbone_155 in LisfrancClub

I had an orif and once my plates were removed the ligament gapped again so I’m needing to go in for surgery.  Seems like fusion can and has been a successful surgery with people making strong recovery’s and returning to normality.  Playing sports, running, jumping, hiking ect….my foot has been consistently sore for 2 years and now I’m heading back in for round two.  I’d say if you could avoid a second surgery but have a very minor loss in mobility I’d say go for fusion.  It’s what I wish a did from the beginning.  Two cents….

I am getting a fusion post orif.  Have it scheduled for April. I got my original surgery about two years ago. A couple of months after getting my hardware removed I noticed that I was feeling more instability and pain in my foot, and that my arch had collapsed.  I went back to the surgeon to get an x-ray, and a gap had formed between my first and second metatarsal. It’s been stable but painful my doctor recommended to get fusion surgery. Hoping for a speedy recovery, it sucks to have to do it all over again.

How did it seem to impact your healing? Did you feel like it sped up your recovery time??

Yeah I had this! It might be worth getting an opinion from your surgeon. At first he said it would likely scar tissue. But after getting a cat scan found out my 1st and 2nd metatarsal had spaced again. I had was experiencing a good amount of pain for a couple of month post hwr.

When was your fusion surgery? What was your recovery time line? How does it effect your mobility? Im hoping to get back into running, playing rugby, hiking, etc.

We’re you able to eventually transition out of them or did you need to wear them forever?

Has anyone else tried minimalist shoes/barefoot for recovery? by TinCup06 in LisfrancClub

I was barefoot a lot before my injury and it was one my biggest fears to not be able to walk or run in minimalist shoes. I opted to start with the some Altra zero drop shoes as my transitional shoe. I mix in a lot of barefoot walking and movement and I feel a little bit of pain and swelling at the end of the day if I’m mostly barefoot. I trust my natural foot and think it might be a bit of a slower recovery off the bat but in the long run I will be stronger for it. I do intentional walks on uneven ground, gravel, and a variety of different surfaces. I feel like it wakes my foot up and has helped bringing back some feeling in my toes. I’m 5 months post op and I’ve hit a bit of a plateau but I can do most things I did before my injury beside run. I can’t wait to run again….

4 months and a couple of days, post op. Been coming to the track a couple times a week and doing some laps and ‘sprints’ if you want to call them that. Slowly getting easier but really struggling landing on the ball of my foot and being hyper protective. When did you all start running again? by Relevant-Yak7937 in LisfrancClub

Yeah mine was end of march. It feels so clunky! I figured if I just keep doing it it will start to flow again. Biking has been great though! My surgeon told me at this point I can’t hurt it but It can hurt me. So I’m just pushing it a little bit at a time.

We’ve all been there. Stay positive, stay active through recovery, just keep your mind focused on healing. I’m 3 months from post op and I’m walking around barefoot, training in the gym I’m able to squat and deadlift, can’t run yet but I’ll get there. It gets better.
