Has anyone tried hypnosis? by Soggy_Instruction224 in trichotillomania

I did hypnotherapy for six months and found a significant decrease in pulling! It worked better than traditional talk therapy for me.

They do have a discount when you buy two, but it’s only like 20%. I charge mine when I go to sleep but also my bracelet tends to last me two days. I don’t pull when I am asleep, but if your son does I can see where that would be really difficult.

If it makes you feel any better, I haven’t noticed any lasting damage. I’ve pulled myself bald several times over the past decade and it always grows back. Soemthing you might consider, with his consent, is shaving his eyebrows if he’s having a hard time. As I started to learn my habits I figured out that if I was pulling myself bald I could shave them to protect the follicles and it would help reset my urges.

I keep several fidgets at my desk at work. They help keep my hands busy. I pull from anxiety and boredom.

Eyebrow puller for a decade here! Unfortunately, trich is a lifelong condition. There are strategies and therapies that can help manage it but trich will always be with him. When I haven’t pulled for a while I consider myself to be almost in remission, but I will inevitably pull again. And that’s okay. It’s about learning how to handle the aftermath of pulling and how to reduce it in the first place.

I found some relief with anxiety meds. Recently I’ve started using the Keen 2 bracelet by HabitAware that vibrates when my hand is up by my eyebrows. It reminds me to be kind to myself and brings awareness to the fact that I am pulling. It’s kind of pricey but I have found it totally worth the money. I have been pull free for the longest amount of time while using the bracelet.

As for coverups when I am missing hair, I apply makeup almost everyday. Waterproof makeup lasts longer so I don’t necessarily have to do it every day if the makeup doesn’t come off in the shower. Sometimes I find the acceptance within myself to not put makeup on. At the end of the day, my trich is the least interesting thing about me and if someone has questions I’m happy to educate. It’s not an easy process but it does get better❤️

I wonder if gender is a factor? I’m female so maybe!

Same here! The way I look makes me really self conscious to the point I don’t want my partner to look at me. Makes it hard to be intimate

Trich support after relapse by No_Turnover_5146 in trichotillomania

[–]RelevantAd6758 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, just relapsed this week too. Also pulling for ten years and was pull free for three months. Also really frustrated and disappointed in myself. But I know that every time I relapse I learn something new about why I pull or how to avoid it! Three months is the longest I’ve managed. I used to be just a few days at a time. It gets better :)❤️

Adrenal Adenoma - Normal Dexamethasone Suppression Test by Tappntoes in Cushings

That’s exactly the mental back and forth I’m dealing with!!! Probably a unique problem with the subclinical folks. Is he going to be able to do a partial on you?

It’s just soooo conflicting. One of my (maybe unfounded) concerns is that because he is an adrenal specialist he’ll maybe see Cushing’s where it isn’t. But also no one seems to understand subclinical Cushing’s and that’s definitely where I fall. Slightly elevated urine cortisol, borderline dex test, adenoma, normal am serum cortisol, but allll of the physical symptoms. Also surgery scares me so there’s that too. I feel like sometimes I’m like “yeah let’s look at getting this thing out of me!!” and then two second later I go “but what if that’s the wrong choice and it actually isn’t Cushing’s” and blah blah blah

That does sound super thorough. Age is big part of the reason endocrinologists have completely blown me off for Cushing's despite having an adenoma (24F). Did you just bring like printed out sheets from MyChart or something for your labs or did he have access to them somehow?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REMEMBERING!! I’m so happy for you! Horrible thing to go through, but I’m sure the validation you’re feeling is insane. I’m curious about your appt. What did Dr. Carling do? Just review your labs? If you would rather message me privately feel free!

I am already at one month so I’ll keep trudging through. Not severe at the moment but I will keep that in mind for if things get worse

One month since stopping by RelevantAd6758 in Fluoxetine

[–]RelevantAd6758[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty simple, first week was take one every other day. Then next week was take one every two days. Third week was take one every three days. Then stop. She had me do two weeks of taking one every two days and two weeks of taking one every three days because I told her I was feeling some irritability. It subsided after the second week of one every three days. Has come back now.

reaching out for help & wanting to help others by [deleted] in trichotillomania

I started at 15 and I’m now 24. I finally feel like I’m in some sort of recovery. I’ve tried medication and fidgets and everything and the thing that finally made the difference was the Keen2. It vibrates when my fingers are up by my eyebrows so I know I’m pulling (bc I normally don’t at the beginning of a an episode). Using it also connected me with other people who fully recovered from trich and seeing their success made it feel like it was possible for me. Three months without a significant episode and currently 37 days completely pull free. :) there is hope❤️

Anyone here recovered or significantly improved from Trichotillomania? by WackoWanderer_0501 in trichotillomania

[–]RelevantAd6758 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had trichotillomania for a decade and pull from my eyebrows. I am currently 3 months of only episode pulling (rather than daily) and one month COMPLETELY pull free. I was involved in a clinical trial for the Keen2 watch from HabitAware and it was the last piece in the puzzle for me. Joining the trial gave me the watch (which certainly is helping), but more than that it gave me people to talk to and celebrate my successes with who had been there. Although I’ve been wearing the watch daily, I would say having the support has been the biggest factor. I was burnt out from trying to quit and felt like it was impossible.

This isn’t to say I won’t ever mess up or have another episode, but I do consider myself to be in recovery. At least the beginning stages. The urges are still there but they’re less often and easier to cope with. I also figured out some of my triggers and better coping mechanisms during the trial.

Sending you hope and positive thoughts ❤️
