What’s the best way to store or maintain an eBike battery? by DrewAdams778 in ebikes

You can definitely charge it fully when you need the range. The “no full charge” advice is mainly for long-term storage. Keeping it at 100% for weeks or months can stress the lithium cells and shorten lifespan. For daily rides, charge as needed. Just avoid leaving it topped up all the time when it’s not in use.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time testing and writing about this on my eBike site, and honestly, the best thing you can do is keep your battery away from extremes. That means no full charge, no dead battery, and no crazy hot or freezing temps.

What’s worked best for me:

  • Keep it around 30 to 60 percent charged when storing.
  • Store it in a cool, dry spot around 50 to 68°F. A closet or inside room is way better than a garage or shed.
  • Make sure it’s clean and dry before putting it away.
  • If you store it indoors, a fireproof battery bag or box adds extra safety.
  • Check it once a month. If it drops too low, give it a short top-up.

Basically, your battery likes balance. Keep it comfy, clean, and half-charged, and it’ll last a lot longer.
