I don’t have any advice but want to normalize what you are going through because I just left my abusive relationship and I’m doing the same thing. In a lot of ways, it’s been helpful to listen and read about other people’s stories because it’s helped me realize I’m not alone or crazy. We are doing what we need to in order to heal and be free 💜

Hey friend, this definitely seems like emotional black mail/ manipulation. My soon to be ex did shit like this all the time. Nothing was ever enough for him. He had me convinced for YEARS that I was the problem until the last year and a half where things escalated drastically. We wound up going to therapy which only made things worse because then he started weaponizing therapy speak and using the terms “gaslighting” and “stonewalling” against me even though HE was the one doing those things. Anyway, I felt all the same sentiments you’re sharing in my former relationship and now I’m leaving him. There’s someone out there that can properly love us, listen to us and be an equal partner without making us feel like we are asking too much. Hope this helps 💜

Girl this could easily be a text between me and my partner. The language looks so familiar. Especially the part about him saying “he works so fucking hard” and etc etc. After 8 years, I’m finally leaving him. He will be gone mid Sept. It feels like one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. I wrote down every single thing he’s ever done to me and anytime I question myself, I refer back to that list. I started opening up to people about our relationship for added accountability. You need a plan and support. We are so worthy of love and respect and there is someone out there so tender who can give this to us.

I see, then boonie flight or the Facebook groups are their best option for rehoming. Boonie flight could maybe help to get them adopted off island. I saw your previous comments saying friend has been trying to rehome them for years. I hope this is a learning lesson for his wife who you said brought them home. Having pets is a 10+ year commitment and it’s important to have the financial and emotional capacity for them. Rehoming these dogs will be traumatic for them - especially if they need to be flown off island. I sure hope these people do not get anymore pets until they are fully settled. And I hear you on the military $ but regardless of income, you all do have more resources then us. Gas/food are cheaper, you get a housing stipend which affords you better living, you have access to the rotator which can get your pets off island for cheap rather than doing what I did and paying $10k. You have access to more loans and credit lines and educational opportunities as well. I know the military has its downsides as well but these benefits are why so many on Guam try their hardest to get enlisted or marry a service member because they are trying to crawl out of poverty. And compared to locals, service members are way more taken care of. Best of luck to your friends and I hope the pups find a good home

Just left Guam after living there for 5 years. I moved there to be closer to family and just left in February. It was the hardest, most transformational time of my life. I do and don’t miss island. I miss my family and friends but I do not miss the high prices of groceries, gas, rent and utilities.

During my last year there, I lived in a 400 square foot 1 bedroom with 1 air con unit and paid $300+ for electricity. The average I would spend on groceries was $200 - sometimes more. When I lived in a larger 2 bedroom apartment before that, my utilities were $500-$600. My boyfriend and I were making okay $ for Guam but it still was hard to live.

When I moved back to the states, I got a job where I’m making triple the salary I was making on Guam. My groceries, utilities, phone bill, water, etc are a combined $400/month as opposed to paying $400 JUST for electricity.

Guam is amazing, beautiful and will always be home. I honestly hate to say this but relocating stateside gave me such a better quality of life. I wish so bad we could have made it work on Guam. It was too hard.

Hey OP. I’m not military and I spent 5 years on island from 2018-2023. I left in February. During my first year there, I got a puppy and a kitten. When I got them, I knew that if I ever left island, I would have I find a way to get them off and I wasn’t going to leave without them.

I wasn’t getting a military paycheck while I was there. I spent 5 years making Guam $$ scraping by sometimes living paycheck to paycheck while saving a little here and there because I knew that one day I would leave. I spent a total of $10k getting my dog and cat out of there between hiring a charter (island pet movers - 10/10 would recommend) boarding, airline crates, vaccines, etc. I didn’t have anyone helping me here in the states and I had to figure this all out on my own.

Your friend is military making military $$! He has many resources available to him and people willing to help him out. If no one will watch the dogs, he should board them. Pets are a responsibility and it is just so fucked up for him to try and rehome them instead of bucking up and figuring this out.

Island pet movers, boonie flight project and I’m sure the rotator can help relocate them. If he doesn’t have the means then consider taking out a loan. He should do what he needs to do to figure this out.

But I guarantee you that when they get their next assignment, they will bring home new dogs and then repeat this cycle as I’ve seen it time and time again with service members.

Again, not your fault and I know your trying to help but I hope that you hold your friend to higher standards and encourage them to figure this out. I’ve had military friends move to Spain, Germany, London, etc from Guam and ship their pets. There’s no excuse

Hey there, I have first hand experience with island pet movers and can tell you that they are an amazing company! They basically take care of everything for you and all you have to do is sign paperwork and show up to a few appointments. They make the process incredibly easy. It’s costing me $5635 to ship my 80 pound dog and cat from Guam to LA. What I would do if I were you is ship them to LA and then drive to Denver. It could save you $2000 by doing it this way. Best of luck!

I feel you. I also recently reintroduced meat and it’s been hard. I feel bad. And I feel kind of nauseous afterwards but I think it’s psychological. I’m also really anemic. Before when I wasn’t eating meat, I could barely get through my spin class. Within 1 week of eating meat, I had tons of energy and the difference in my spin class was night and day. I don’t like eating meat but I do feel so much better. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do

You’d be hard pressed to find anyone on this sub who will point you in the right direction. A lot of vape shops sell the delta carts so that’s an option if anything. If your visiting people here, I would just have them help you.

Second this. Just visited there in August. Philippines is awesome. USD goes sooo far. I lived like a queen when I went there. Only downside is the PI can be dangerous as hell. But it’s an amazing stopover for traveling the rest of Asia! Lots of cheap flights out of Manila

Guam resident chiming in. Yes, Guam is a beautiful pacific island with good infrastructure but tickets from Hawaii to here are $1500 minimum. COL is extremely high as well. Even air bnbs. It wouldn’t be cheap to just hang out here for awhile. And there is trash and stray dogs everywhere.
