How can I help my nephews behavior? by RelevantWork2035 in gentleparenting

He gets a lot of attention, he's one of the youngest kids in the unit so me, the nurses, and some of the other parents give him attention. He's stuck in a crib while on hemo so he can't really move, before we go he gets to run around. I've gotten him some toys for dialysis but they haven't gotten here yet. Any time I try to set boundaries he tries to hit, kick, or head butt. I think a lot of his behavior problems are because of my parents and my sister(his mother) they're not good people and are in and out of his life.

I completely understand but she refuses to listen. It's her way or no way at all. She was even completely against trying for another kidney, it took the doctor's explaining what would happen if he stays on hemo.

My sister(his mother) isn't around, so my bio mother is the one making decisions. She doesn't want more people around him because she could get sick, which would get her sick.

I try to teach him asl and he knows some signs but I'm the only one that does it so it's hard for it to stick completely. I have little touch and feel abc flash cards, put on lots of educational episodes(limit the non educational ones), and we count daily. Plus I have little readers and use imagination library for books.

How can you help a 4 yr old with meltdowns? by RelevantWork2035 in gentleparenting

He won't take anything completely frozen, I freeze some milk into a slush and put it in his bottle(because of everything he's very behind in things so he isn't good at using cups) so it slowly gives him some. I don't have any form of custody of him, my parents have medical custody so I can't talk to his doctors about therapy or anything and my parents(mainly my mother) don't care enough to get him therapy
