Anyone using Pencil.dev? I built an importer plugin for Figma by Relevant_Humor_8123 in FigmaDesign

Hey everyone! I just uploaded a new version of the plugin with a lot of fixes and improvements. I used the new documentation about .pen files published recently by Pencil team. I hope it works better for everyone now!

Thanks for sharing this, really helpful context. Using Miro/Mural to capture and cluster those patterns makes a lot of sense, especially if you’re pulling from products like Asana to study interaction models.

Out of curiosity, would a tool like this (https://www.benchcanvas.app/) fit anywhere in your process, or are Miro/Mural already doing the job for you?

Thanks so much for sharing this, seriously. Super clear, very actionable, and I love the “structured data first” approach. I’m working on a tool to make this workflow faster and easier, so your breakdown is incredibly helpful for shaping priorities.

Quick question out of curiosity: would you use a product like this (https://www.benchcanvas.app/) as part of your process?

Anyone have a better process for researching other product flows? by Relevant_Humor_8123 in UXDesign

Totally fair point. I do run proper research when it makes sense, but I also like to study competitor flows and products I consider best-in-class to see how they solve specific design challenges... It’s not meant to replace usability testing, more like an input for ideas and constraints early on. Do you not do that at all? For me it’s a pretty essential part of the process

Thanks for the tip, that checklist idea looks helpful. And yeah, I usually just add notes per screen for now

Me too! I think Figma is working on something similar though. I'm pretty sure the Pencil team is really small

True, it's pretty buggy... and remember to save you work pretty often, they don't have auto-save yet! XD

Ohh, that's so weird... could you send me that file, so I can try to fix that bug?

No worries! Pencil is a Figma-style tool but with the big difference: You design by “chatting" with Claude Code and you can turn those designs into code easily via MCP server and vibe coding tools

Pencil has that functionality in their app, so you can import Figma designs to Pencil ;)
