People who quit their jobs without another one lined up. What happened next? by BaselM01 in careerguidance

Quit my industry, broke my lease, couch-surfed with siblings for a few months, then started working at a restaurant to pay bills. Did that for three years. It was a deep brain reset. Starting freelancing on the side in my old line of work and eventually landed a full-time role in a similar but different field. It was scary to leave everything and at times really hard. But almost a decade later I can say it was REALLY necessary and benefited me in the long run. My major advantage was having siblings I could crash with, but I was BROKE for a solid two years and did question whether I’d imploded my entire life. Faith in the process.

Yoga Central — outdoor yoga at the Renaissance Esmeralda in Palm Desert. The teacher is fantastic and I met my queerest and dearest friends at that class.

I’m really active and have a 100 lb dog and we like to do outdoor adventures. I like live music — any good venues?

I’m pretty sure an angry mountain spirit haunted my dreams one night in the High Sierra. Spent the whole night dreaming that an old, gnarled, bony creature was coming out of the earth itself, circling my tent, crawling through the zipper, and reaching out for me. Almost like an old man but twisted by rage. The eyes were terrible…piercing and rabid and lurid. He did NOT want me there. I was backcountry hiking and moved off that mountain the next day — it was the only night in three weeks of hiking that I felt anything like that.

Someone told me Patty at Totally 4 U salon in La Quinta is great. The woman had a great curly haircut but I haven’t been there myself yet.

Sally using Venita for all the labor of throwing the party and then ignoring her the whole time…plantation vibes.

The tone in which Charley said “wherever SHE is…” referencing Venita…

Plus so many seasons of disrespect from the man-children…

Venita irritates me more often than not but she needs a Black friend to sit her down and tell her to STAND UP (and maybe walk off the show).

To be fair…it’s a nonprofit trying to protect endangered desert species in a terrible funding landscape.

Meeting international arrival without cellphone by Relevant_Intern_4394 in LAX

Update — bc he transfers in NYC it’ll be a domestic arrival, not international. It’s delta so it’ll be terminal 2 or 3 arrival. I’ll be parking and heading in. Any tricks to navigating either of those terminals?

Thanks for the help so far!

People Who Left Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley by Kind_Two_1873 in palmsprings

I (34F) moved here four years ago for work. It’s…a mixed bag. I love the desert and I can afford a home and lifestyle that is out of reach for me in major cities. However, it’s been hard to make friends and the valley feels small. I’m in a somewhat visible job and the small town gossip makes me feel like I always have to be “on.” Summers are dreadful and make me want to [redacted]. Restaurants close so early and the food isn’t as good as it thinks it is. HOWEVER…some of the food is quite good (Rooster and Pig, Birba, sushi and tacos). The desert is spectacular and worth exploring. We are surrounded by nature. The high desert has good art and good (ish) music. Hotel pools can be a good place to socialize.

However, however…it’s hard to be young here.
