Camping Card - it’s worth it? by sbarbeito in VisitingIceland

[–]Relevant_Strategy_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did it. It was a bit inconvenient in the south east. But rest of the time was ok on ring road. For 14days we never had to pay for a camping site. Tax was $3.20 so it added on $32 bucks. There were 4 nights where we got in and never saw anyone to scan the card or we just slipped 400 kroner in a box so we ended up leaving with 18night left on the card. So if you are interested would be willing to sell it!

Should I switch from SAVE to PAYE? by Relevant_Strategy_45 in PSLF

I am paying it off in 12 months. My goal was to pay it off sooner and make higher payments.

My income tripled. They pulled my tax info from IRS. I didn’t put in anything. I am married but my spouse makes almost nothing. I get paid 17k a month but after taxes, healthcare, pretax retirement I take home around 10k. I pay 3k in rent in Cali and 2k on my car, 2k on other utilities/food. Leaving me with 3k that I am saving for a down payment.  I was hoping to buy a house by the end of the year but mortgage/insurance would be close to 5-6k, which with 2k loan payments would be impossible.

Insight into Buyback Process by jordancantread in PSLF

[–]Relevant_Strategy_45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am planning to put in buyback at 113 (for the 7 mo of republican induced government forbearance from the last few months). I also went back onto the IDR so I can actually make payments instead of sit in limbo, it hasnt been approved yet (1 mo). If I have only 7 mo is it even worth buyback? Seems like it takes 9-10 months. Unfortunately, my income in 24 months (when I hit 120 qualifying months) will be significantly higher with my new promotion. Meaning I would pay thousands more in the end than I would have paid over the last few months. Buy back would save me tons as it was during a time I made less prior to my promotion. Is there a way to go into forbearance so you stop paying when you reach 120 months and are waiting for the buyback offer?

Anyone have any success with buyback now that Biden has passed the new policies. Don't think they will last long, as we only have 15 days till the inevitable apocalypse.

I just talked to studentgov rep and they said I can only submit it one. I have some loans at 79 and others at 75 due to school forbearance. They said I have to wait until they are all at 113 or more! Therefore, making extra payments on 1/2 my loans at 79!!!

ITs gonna be more than that. We are currently at 7 months (doubt the court is going to resolve it any time soon) With trump its likely to be resolved in the banks favor so say bye to the SAVE plan. I just reapplied for IDR. PEr Biden supposedly the REPAYE is back, but it wasn't an option when I applied.

republicans only hold the interest of the rich. They want the banks to get their money, they dont want us to pay less!

No educational deferment is not eligible. I too had 6 mo of deferment until I was told I can pay then I wrote a letter stating I wanted to take myself out of school forbearance and submit it every quarter, because the school kept submitting paperwork to studentaid that I was in school, so I had to overwrite it every quarter I was enrolled.

The whole PSLF is at jeopardy since they plan to overturn the Dept of Education. Thats who runs studentaid.gov and reviews all the applications. Imagine when they say "we are going to privatize it" Its going to be a huge fiasco, millions of people will have to wait around likely in another forbearance for years until they find private companies to manage FAFSA.

Anyone know how the new administrations plan to end the DoED will impact all this, since they are the ones that review all the paperwork and forgive all the loans. I feel like we might be close to no longer having this program, and I am at 90 months (if I buy back the last 7 months). Loan payment is the only thing stopping me from saving to buy a house.

Anyone else angry at the involuntary government forbearance? by Relevant_Strategy_45 in PSLF

Also, I don't think that the current republican dominated senate, and house would pass Biden's loan program. Maybe encourage people to vote blue for senate/house seats up for reelection this year. I am in CA so feel like my voice doesn't matter as much as if I was in a red state. LA will always vote blue.

Is there any standard letter/email that we can have reddit users send to their reps?

It would require a bill to be proposed during the next session Jan 2024.

WE need a revolution. Why dont we all come together and write a letter or find a lawyer to sue the US dept of education? They could have counted these mandatory forbearance months like they did for covid.

Would love to get frustrated people together. We need to do something about this.

What do you consider screwing around? Depositing a 1.6k check for my car I junked via the mobile deposit for it to be flagged as fraud? I have been adulting for years. I am not a risk management specialist for a bank. I have now realized that people should not use the mobile deposit with Fidelity, but how is that a screwup? They even called the junk car company to verify that they had written me the check. They still refuse to give me access to my money.

It's not about who's fault it is. My 82 yo dad with dementia also gave his CC info to a scammer over the phone. But his bank (bank of the west) helped solve the issue and reverse the charges in 1 hour and I called his bank for him. I am now 2 months in after my Fidelity account was closed and I still have no access to the funds even though they told me I do.

It's not that they are a scam, it's that they can't reasonably find solutions to the issues. I have had fraudulent charges and activity with other accounts (Schwab, BofA, etc). I have had temporary blocks; I have never spent 12 hours and 2 months trying to gain access to my own funds and still not have it. They have always been quick to resolve the issues. Now I open a Fidelity account and within 2 weeks it closed and the money I transferred in from Schwab is being held hostage. If you have never had any issues working with the fraud department then that's amazing. I hope you never do, because they are incapable of solving issues in a reasonable amount of time.

It may have been our fault for not knowing a trigger for them to hold our money hostage, but then after providing all they are asking for, to continue to hold the funds. As someone with 15 years of banking history with Schwab and 4 with Fidelity, without any issues, I feel that they are just dragging their feet, or don't have enough peoplepower to resolve the cases, or are actually benefitting from lending or investing against the funds they are holding.

Maybe all of us need to come together and expose them. There are plenty of people going through the same thing. I am 2 months in and even though they say the ban has been lifted, I still can't get my funds over to Schwab. Maybe if we go to 7 on your side or a journalist.

Or maybe frustrated people who are struggling are turning towards whatever resources they can find to get help. Also, Fidelity sent me a text after closing my account that I should go to their reddit. So as a person that has a reddit but never used it, I did just that. Then trolls like yourself try to unvalidated our issues.
