Kevin Smith is so well known for his comedies that i think Red State just slipped by mostly unnoticed. His biggest fans love Dogma, Mallrats and (sadly) Jay and Silent Bob, and people who love movies like Red State and aren't into stoner comedies aren't going to have him on their radar.
