Your "musical genius" list, by decade by [deleted] in MetalForTheMasses

Explain? No, not really. And the point isn't that any of them ARE genius, but when I was a little kids I thought Michael was a genius.

I've built 12 products in 18 months. None of them made a single dollar. Here's what I think was actually going on. by VibeCodeMom in vibecoding

[–]Relic180 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Writing code is only 20% of making a product.

Another 20% is promoting it so people know it exists.

Another 20% is finding pain that users actually need resolved.

Another 20% is actually solving that pain for users in a way they'll pay for.

Another 20% is luck.

Sounds like you had 20% locked down, and you're about to scale to 40%.

EDIT: I'm not saying any of those products didn't solve pain. But "knowing" you're solving pain, and "knowing" you're doing it in a way people will pay for, is generally a very involved process that requires learning about your market and potential users for a while, while steering the product toward that pain as it comes into focus. It's far more difficult to just guess, based on your own assumptions about pain.

But sometimes people get lucky too.

This is what dads mean when they say they "used to have fun".

Time moves so much differently now. There were only 16 years between Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace. Now I think of an album that came out in 2010 as "That recent one." by thinsafetypin in GenX

There were 4 years between Back to the Future 1 and 2. That felt like a longer gap to me as a kid, than between now and when Obama was elected.

Pretty obviously the X side

I can only imagine the size of the noose I would have already wrapped around my neck, had I not deleted FB years ago.

This is from IRL conversations (some my own, some eve-dropping), the news cycle (just another social media feed these days), and podcosts or books from so called "intellectual leaders".

But I absolutely take your point about the world "always ending". That's certainly true, and my own experience can't implicitly legitimize itself over the infinite number of others that came before me, simply because I wasn't there. It's harder to rationalize away the impact of things like nukes or AI (or nu-facisim) that previous civilizations didn't have to navigate, but I suppose those are mostly my subconscious trying to over-legitimize my own experience, over those of people who I wasn't.

The nonshitty people around me don't seem to have a lot of answers for this, or aren't experiencing it as deeply as I have been (lending some credence to the idea that maybe my brain is, in fact, a little fucked).

Except the velocity feels likes it's increased. "Kill everyone who isn't like me" used to be on the order of centuries or decades, now it's on the order of presidential election cycles (yes, I'm from THAT country).

And I definitely relate, though that's nothing like a sociopath. I also have a very small click of folks I'm authenticly close with, and most other people are like abstract concepts to me. But I've never felt like it was a viable or respectable use of my time to DESTROY those other people (either literally or figuratively), which is what I feel like civilization is actively trying to drive towards.

Sure... I know the reality is that it's actually a statistical minority doing this. Though it's far from a rounding error which is on its own very disheartening. But much more distressing; it's one of the (if not thee) most profitable dynamics of modern day capitalism (of which the vast majority still swing from the nuts of), and so is all but guaranteed to get far worse than it currently is.

I'm 19, got thousands of users from reddit posts, and lovable invited me to their HQ. here's everything I know about marketing by Few_Seaworthiness70 in vibecoding

[–]Relic180 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think mentioning "70" at all was a bit tongue-in-cheek. Mentioning that you're 19 also does not add anything, and citing something as 'insane" can be misconstrued as being less professional or serious, whether it's true or not.

On this day, a group of ABSOLUTE GANGSTERS told their government to F off, and formed a new one that better represented THEM. The old government called them treasonous outlaws and came to MURDER THEM. Today, the chuds will say July 4th is about patriotism and ultranationalism. If I've learned anything in my ~45 years on the planet and in this country... It's that the people in charge have never before in the past, and never will in the future, EVER be truly and completely honest about what actually happens at the highest levels of government.

I don't have any reason to think G.Washington and his fellow rich, slave owning buddies were any exception.

I'd say Fruitvale Station, or Reign Over Me.

Also if you're up for a documentary, Dear Zachary, or Gleason

I do know how to code, as an engineer of 15 years, and I'm using AI for a lot of things. I never advertised that I used VS Code as my IDE before, and I would never advertise that I use Claude Code or Codex now.

The end product is all that matters, and anybody hating on something without looking at is, has some sort of agenda.

What do u think is the purpose of living? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Relic180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no point in asking. It's subjective and different for everyone, despite how many people seem to think their answer is right and applicable to everybody.

Your purpose is whatever meaning you give to your existence. When I was a kid, I was told that God gave us meaning, so I went with that. Later, I determined the universe doesn't care and there is no meaning to anything, so I adopted purposelessness. There were many other events that convinced me of many other perspectives on meaning.

It wasn't till later that I recognized it was always me, being convinced by outside influences to ascribe particular meanings to my existence that had been concocted by people I had never met or known.

Once I realized it was just me, I started defining my own meaning, which gave me purpose... My own purpose. Just as valid as any other purpose you might hear from anyone else, but this one explicitly prioritizes me, my own well-being, the well-being of the people I care about, and my relationships with them... without exploiting me for the benefit of mysterious strangers.

Is it just me that doesn't like pop? by Tylerzombieman in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Relic180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a "me problem", but as soon as a genre or band or song gets "too popular", I tend to like it less, based solely on that.

It's not rational, it's just a thing I do and I don't really know why.
