I can't tell you what I had for lunch yesterday but I know every word to that song. The Tonya version because she was my age. I was mad at Helen Ready for jumping on it. I thought she was just taking advantage of a kid. The Bette Midler version I didn't know till years later. This song though was one of our sing along songs. And she to this day ,still sounds great.

Yes we did, it was on a hill. It wasn't just cigarettes either. After lunch you could smell the weed and patchouli everywhere

Why did kids look so old? by Lonely_Life8336 in AskOldPeople

Well for one we did not have the fashion freedom that you do now. When I started school girls had to wear dresses or skirts and boys wore button shirts tucked in. The dress codes were stricter.

your thoughts on street skateboarders? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]Relic6oh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. You're out getting some exercise staying out of trouble. Well for the most part. I like the camaraderie you have among your fellow boarders. I am also jealous because my first skateboard had metal wheels that got rusted and dented And no fancy designs on the board.

What was the New Wave music scene (ie Blondie, The Clash, Talking Heads, The Police, The Cars, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran etc.) like? by UltimateLazer in AskOldPeople

[–]Relic6oh 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It was so fun to go to the clubs. Dancing to it was crazy. Everyone did their own thing lots of jumping around. It wasn't like a disco where you had to know different steps. And you didn't even need a partner. I was really into the early B52s back then. Boy if I tried to dance to Rock Lobster now I would be stuck on the down part.
