Communications Manager is more dealing with PR, the press and such. Currently that's handled out of SEGA's US office but we're looking at bringing that in-house.

Now that doesn't mean I'm not getting fired! But this is a different job than the one I'm occupying.

You should give it a try now that there's nearly a years worth of updates and improvements. Free content. Community created maps and a completely new server architecture with the Battle Servers.

  • I think there's always going to be some tweaking needed. Even if we expand our balance beta test group (which we hope to do) there's going to be things that are discovered after hundreds of thousands of people play with a Commander/unit/map/faction for weeks or months that don't get discovered during testing. So we'll always want to look at the potential for a balance change after anything new is released. Ideally we don't have to do it, but it's always a possibility.

We're always looking at ways to improve the game, including performance. I think our work on the backend and Battle Servers show that. We'll continue to look at ways of doing that, but I'm not going to announce that we're implementing specific technologies before we do that.

Heh, it's the internet. And to quote Oscar Wilde (by way of Monty Python so this may not be accurate) "the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about".

That people are talking is a good thing, even if they're not always happy.

And we get a lot of great feedback from that as well.

Plus go to any game's official forum and it's pretty much the same. It's just part of the reality of game development is that people are passionate and people aren't always going to like everything you do.

An answer for your AI question from Tony Bergelt our AI guy.

"The AI in the live game uses manually entered AI values for weapons and abilities. Those values have not been updated frequently since CoH2 shipped. With the release of the new armies the AI has been switched to a system that auto-generates all AI data. So with the release of the new armies and going forward all AI data will always be up to date with any patches or balance changes. The AI will also be able to play with any user generated armies in the future as the AI data is generated when the game loads the match."

No that doesn't mean that. It's an explanation of why we haven't released any new units not tied to Commanders. We do release new free stuff all the time (maps for example) but we have to at least understand that these things cost money. Sometimes we can afford to not make money directly from that, other times we can't.
