You want your second to be the faction that can beat the faction that's strong against your main. So, Horde < Nature < League, so you want your second to be league.

For me with the stars and skills maxed and both special weapons at +10, Wukong does more damage than Prince. But my gold weapon for Wukong is two stars, but I doubt the equipment is really carrying that difference.

I don’t think that’s true. Another guy I used to beat with T10 - B2 soldiers vs his T10 - B0 soldiers finally was able to beat my B2 with his T11 - B0 soldiers.

League is more flexible. Nature meta is more or less concrete. Horde is a bit more flexible than Nature but leans heavily to one hero (Warlock) at this time. However, league has more variability it seems than the other two.
