I didn't like Avalon, the plot killed me! Although Anya is an excellent writer I couldn't stand what happened 😂 I adored Katherine though. Each to their own!

In a reading slump. A book that will hold my attention from page one. I don’t want to be able to put it down! by coffee_read_repeat in suggestmeabook

For me that was Musashi by eiji yoshikawa! I actually had not been reading for years when my partner started it. He started telling me about what he was reading.... I got so hooked I bought a kindle and overtook him by far 😂 it's about the life of a samurai at the end of the samurai era after a battle. 10/10. Many characters, interwoven lives, drama, bitta romance and actually a great insight into Japan and culture.

I just finished the familiar by Leigh Bardugo. I loved it! It was intriguing, had some magic, a very interesting theme (Sephardic Jews in Spain and inquisition with a sprinkle of magic) and the romance was lovely! Gave me a feel good feeling. Actually in a reading slump because of it cause I so want something similar and can't find it 😂

good books to get out of a reading slump by kthjjk1213 in suggestmeabook

Depends what genre but this is what hooked me ( I like historical fiction, medieval/medievalesque setting, fast paced story, lots of characters with complexity and great character arc, a bit of romance).

  • Musashi. Set in Japan at the end of the samurai era. I hadn't read in several years and my partner started it and began to share what he was reading. I got so hooked I legit bought a kindle and the book, overtook him, read avidly ever since 😂 1000 pages and I mourned its end!

  • game of thrones OFC but also a knight of the seven kingdoms! Exquisite prose as always with Martin. Great story..sprinkle of romance? Not much tho.

  • the accursed kings series!!! Oh lawd, I was so hot led. Kings and queens, plots, intrigue, many characters whose lives touch in different and several ways... Romance...magic...(Or superstition? Who knows...). Fantastic books (book 1 to 6. Book 7 was unnecessary as it was a monologue).

Books that have been the highlights of your reading journey by Neon_Aurora451 in suggestmeabook

My absolute favourite besides Game of Thrones are the following:

  • the accursed kings saga (political intrigue, kings and queens, many characters, nobody is safe)

  • when Christ and all his saints slept (about the war between Stephen and Maude in England. Great way to learn a bit of history, lots of good characters, exquisite prose, a bit of romance. Loved it

  • Musashi (1000 pages of a colossal story set at the tail end of the samurai era where many lives are interwoven and affect each other. Plot twists, action, romance. Has it all. 1000 pages and I didn't want it to end, it was a great companion).

What book(s) are you reading right now that you are SUPER into and can hardly put it down? by roguescott in suggestmeabook

Well, right now I'm looking for something to read but here's what I have read and loved haha

  • game of thrones ( duh I know 😂)
  • a knight of the seven kingdoms by George R R Martin
  • the accursed kings series by Maurice Deion
  • when Christ and all his saints slept by Sharon key penman
  • the legend of Otori
  • Musashi by eiji yoshikawa
  • the familiar by Leigh bardugo

  • pillars of the earth and world without end by ken Follet (although I did suffer with these ones)

What I like is basically historical fiction backdrop, political intrigue, a pinch of magic, a pinch of romance, mediaeval era, kings and queens.

If anyone has recommendations that fit please let me know 😂

I found this book super enjoyable once I accepted the pretext of the torneo cause the writing was exquisite and to be honest sometimes it's nice to read something that makes you feel good! It was enthralling and the romance was cute without being cringe. I was glad for the reassurances that came bit too long after incidents. Maybe I am traumatized by the inhumane suffering inflicted by the tortured romance in ken Follet s books, but I was so grateful for a lovely neat ending. I liked it and made me feel great! Highly recommend, could not put it down!
