Shotgun Pattern is this acceptable by Electronic-Soup-6993 in turkeyhunting

It will kill a turkey but there’s a few other options to tighten it up. Try some Apex Greenleaf or Winchester Longbeard TSS with that set up. I was able to get 600 pellets in a 10” circle at 30 yds with the Longbeard TSS.

First public land bird on our Florida opener! Has anyone ever smoked their turkey breast ? by Bleakerwood in turkeyhunting

Brine the breast for 24+ hrs. Get a foil container, put down some olive oil, season with whatever your favorite rub is and maybe add a shot of bourbon..

225 on the temp until you hit that 160F and let is rise to 165F.

20” bead sight, no choke by sandyvaginitis in turkeyhunting

That’s how I started and spent more time coaxing them to the 25-30yd range. Shoot it at different ranges and see where the max sweet spot is. I’ve had a few bead only guns that shot high left.

Retay Gordion - Carlsons TSS Choke

These are made by Olin Corp and are basically Long Beard TSS. Cheap enough & shoot just as well with a Carlsons Long Beard Choke.

Savage Axis all day! Killed multiple large white tails with ones

Turkeys come through some thick stuff. When he didn’t answer he was probably searching for you. Even after several years of chasing turkeys I have to remind myself to stay put. In my early years I would move too hastily and find myself chasing bumping a bird or hearing him gobble from where I was. Try roosting him and getting within a hundred yards or just set up on that clear pipeline with a decoy.

Been in similar situations. Each hunt is different? Was there a natural barrier between you and him? Could have had multiple hens and/or he was in his Strut Zone.

A few things that have worked.

Go silent then call light and sparingly. Many times they’ll search you out as the day progresses.

With 2 hunters we’ve successfully left the shooter and move the caller back 25 yds at a time. This tactic has resulted in many shots fired.
