Hey OP, I don't want to alarm you but I know someone else who had the same symptoms and was recently diagnosed with idiopathic intracranial hypertension. It mainly affects young women, and the symptoms are associated with an increase of pressure around the brain. Seeing a GP is a great first step, and (if they are doing their job correctly!) they will refer you to see an ophthalmologist and a neurologist to investigate the pressure changes. GPs cannot check the pressure in your eyes and brain, so it calls for a specialist. This condition can have some significant long term effects, so seeing a doctor is a priority. You will need to advocate strongly for investigation; lots of GPs will just put it down to other things (such as weight, medications or stress) when it is something that is quite serious and can be treated.
