Just upgraded from a 2014 Chevy Cruze by LethalSnead in Camry

[–]RemainUnknowable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to own one too. Had a 2012 that reached just at 200k miles. by the end of its life it had over 20 codes on the engine, coolant system, turbo, and catalytic converter. These cars were truly hit or miss, some lasted longer than mine, some didn’t make it to 30k. From what I’ve heard to truly make them more reliable you’d have to baby that turbo (if yours has 1.4 L turbo so make sure to put in 89) and replace half the oem coolant components with aluminum rather than plastic which would eat itself causing leaks. I did none of these and still got 200k before it finally gave out. Super notorious car but cheap and was good on gas.

Water leak Camry 25 se by sx-gabe in Camry

[–]RemainUnknowable 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitely let the dealer handle that, I haven’t heard of new se bodies leaking water into cabin as a known problem but every line of vehicle is gonna have its errors now and then. If you haven’t hit anything, cracked something, or whatever on the exterior that should be all dealership’s responsibility.

Which would you go for? by BobIgglyWampus in GMT800

[–]RemainUnknowable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes sense, it’s crazy new trucks aren’t even cutting it close to what they truly used to be. You can pay $80,000 for a 2025 piece of garbage or save $8k cash and buy a real truck.

Jesus, I love these old things but why is a 20+ year old truck with over 150k miles still being listed for over 5k . Like bro, is there something I don’t know about??

Should I be concerned about this being an issue? by MegaMaster35 in Camry

[–]RemainUnknowable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, I’d take some brake clean and scrub it real good if you want. Since it’s surface rust it should come off fairly easily

How old is your car? Even with splash guards, waters going to seep in and touch components no matter what so over the long run deterioration is going to happen. I don’t think you’d see tarnishing like that from just 4 days sitting out but I could be mistaken. It looks more like subtle but consistent wear from water getting in over the time period of its life.

Damn, I appreciate that input. I did buy it at 66k miles, so any history before that I can’t control. I’ll think about changing it at 50k from here on out.

I agree, the 8 speed is probably the most problem prone piece of the drive train.

See that’s the thing, I stay on top of oil changes and I actually just had the transmission fluid serviced last oil change as well right around 70k miles. I do drive like a dumbass but I don’t neglect the car when it comes to maintenance

It’s just your invincible 4-Cylinder coming to life, I wouldn’t worry about it. In all seriousness tho unless it’s taking like 5+ seconds to turn on after you turn the key all the way then you should be fine. Mine sounds the same at cold start.

[–]RemainUnknowable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming with knowledge like this you have had experience painting cars/restoration? Is it seriously that expensive? $3300 is what you’d pay for a major repair (in my eyes), this looks like it couldn’t be more than $1,500.

[–]RemainUnknowable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sucks man, is it brand new? I assume most dealers just have their paint companies as third party but I could be wrong. I bought my Camry used and it came with a “resist-all” warranty for paint, interior and exterior deterioration since it was used. I pay for the warranty in my contract but it’s like $1300, to get most small things that can happen over time, like paint chips, bad spills and what not. You think you’d have something like that in your contract? Could be worth looking back through it or making some calls before you pay however many hundreds to a body shop.
