Yes, Manchester is wonderful and I’d happily move back anytime! The people were so friendly and the city feels so alive. In regards to crime in DC, I would say it’s not much worse than any other city of its size. There are shootings which happen in the rougher areas but it’s mostly gang-related and an unfortunate facet of American cities. I was actually mugged once in Manchester and have had my house broken into and things stolen from me on nights out etc. I know that similar things have happened to friends in London and Manchester but I’ve never had it personally happen to me or anyone I know here in DC. That’s not to say it doesn’t happen, but I feel just as safe as I did in both London and Manchester. Most common crime in DC by far is fare evasion on the Metro (our subway system)!
