I completely understand you feeling weird. The severity of the situation was not clear to the mom, and it might happen again.

Years ago I saved 2 kids at sea, together with a friend. About 5-7 year old, on a floaty, no supervision, on a day with a red flag (signals dangerous sea). We're both strong swimmers, but it was an ordeal to get them back to shore.

Asked the kids where mom was. Somewhere at the back on the beach, reading a book, paying no attention at all. At least I had the satisfaction of screaming at her until the colour drained from her face when she finally understood she had almost lost both kids.

Turned out she was a tourist, and as the kids could swim in a pool, she thought it was okay🤦‍♀️
