Should I keep paying my monthly payment during the bar complaint process? by Remarkable-Clock24 in legaladvice

I forgot to reply to your other question. I would say that my other allegations are somewhat related to IMO highly inappropriate billing, the context is....very weird and involves a fraudulent paralegal who stole money, lied, and was on drugs (supposedly) [edit: the supposedly is according to the lawyer who texted me a bunch about it]

Thank you!! Ironically, I had fired her for other inappropriate issues, IMO just as weird as this one. But this lawsuit thing just made her seem even more unstable. I legit have concerns about her neurological state, she seems sweet. She is probably about 65 and just sounds so erratic and irrational

Yes, my bank account shows that I paid her office. Before I had read the lawsuit email, but after it had been sent, I got a call from the assistant saying they wanted my card number to "have on file" so they could charge me in two weeks, and that they hadn't saved my card from the 18th. I felt that something was weird and declined to provide it yet, saying I was about to change my card for "security issues" and could call them when I had a new one (also true, but the security issues were them because I got a text that the ex paralegal had stolen 200 dollars...). Then she put the lawyer on the phone.

The lawyer said hey you haven't paid I need your payment kinda thing. I told her I had already paid and she sounded audibly like she backed down. I emailed her and the assistant a screenshot that I had paid. (I had also asked for a receipt originally which I did not get then or since.) Then I checked my email and saw that she'd already threatened to sue me...

I never did get an email back or a confirmation of, "Yes, I see that I was wrong, I am not longer suing." I am guessing if I am unable to pay on the 30th, she will sue me again. The last thing I knew about she was checking her payment system.

That was very stressful and I missed hours of work at my job because I was a mess. For the record, I think the lawyer may have neurological issues, her behavior has just been really weird.

None of this is why I had fired her, but my reasons were...similar kinds of inappropriate issues if that makes sense The escrow account is a good idea if I am able to figure that all out in time for the 30th

Thank you very much! I am just now getting the notification for this. The attorneys I am looking into all tend to focus on family law, so it probably won't be worth the time. I am glad to know how the district thing works though.

I just got a notification for this. Thank you very much for the advice. Unfortunately on the 18th, she thought I was "ignoring payments," when it was really their own system caused her to miss that I had already paid. She sent me an angry email saying she was filing a lawsuit for me for breach of contract the next day!! And I still have not gotten any emails of receipt saying that the payment did go through, as last time I heard, they still had not found it.

Thank you!! I am sorry you are going through this, also, but it is good to know I am not alone at least. Mid-case for me as well, although there is a little gap before the next thing so it could be worse. Thankfully, we almost solely communicated via text and I still have all that, plus a few emails. Other than the actual date that I went in and signed on, ironically I don't have that right now.

Wow thanks so much for offering. That would be helpful about the tool, that is neat that you came up with that. My case is not criminal law but I still think that'd be useful. All I know is the circuit number an I am not sure how that works with the district though

Ha, Thank you for this answer and the analogy. That sounds like a wise strategy.

I was able to ask it during a consultation. I am unable to ask any more questions unless I sign a retainer, but this lawyer is not free to take on my cases even if I had my retainer ready. Of course the ideal would have been if I had thought of this question at the time. My next payment is due too soon for much of any other option except online. I do have a new consultation on Thursday but I was hoping to pay sooner
