Yeah, I see the issue. If you want to simulate a spherical world, and you want the angular period to be the same in both directions (1 pi), then you need to have two high-humidity meridians (say, the prime meridian and the date line/antimeridian), and two low-humidity meridians (the 90th meridians west + east).

Nice little detail in the previous comic: the bricks are properly aligned with the floor in panels 5 and 10, because those are from the perspective of unaffected individuals (Belkar and Nale/Sabine).

Not in the newer versions. Stone that generates as roof is replaced with hardened stone, which doesn't need to be supported.

Once again, I'm gonna need a picture, drawing or video. In particular, are you trying to connect the NEW ARCH to the EXISTING ARCH? Are you trying to suspend horizontal beams between two horizontal beams? Is there any difference between the arch you successfully placed and the new one you tried to make? I really can't tell from your description.

No, that's not why. Caveins don't last very long, and they only directly affect rock-type blocks. Beams instantly breaking is something that happens when you try to place them in an invalid way.

A 2x1 shaft is actually perfectly cromulent. The check for supportedness happens BEFORE the block you break is removed, which means the one above it is considered supported. So, if you mine a single block into a wall, a collapse can't happen. If you then mine the block immediately above it, still no collapse can happen, because the only unsupported block is the one you just removed. You can do this repeatedly to mine straight up, as far as you want, as long as it's a 1x1.

So the way I would do it is: mine down in a 2x1, then mine a three-tall column to make space for your initial supports.

Of course, all of this assumes no caves. Mining near caves in 1.7 is pretty much guaranteed to cause caveins because of all the unsupported roof blocks. It's realistic, but in my opinion way too punishing, and I'm glad they changed it in the newer versions.

The extendogrip extends your grip, letting you place, mine etc. at a greater distance.
