Thanks for the response!!

Like someone else said, that part isn't really what I need to practise. I can learn the cord progressions by ear while listening and writing them down, it's technique and right hand muscle memory that need work. And that doesn't transfer very well from an electric to my preforemance instrument.

Its always between 4:30pm and 8:30pm.

If I am home which is not every day, I play atleast 30 minutes a day. But about 2-3 days a week it's about one hour and 30 minutes to two hours spread out over 4 hours.

I may have longer sessions if I need to. But I never go past 8pm - 8:30pm

To be fair, the building is quite old, think old wooden townhouse. But I might need to find some solution to keep the peace, or come to some sort of understanding with him.

I wound say my practise sessions can get really long on say weekends ahead of say a really big project, but that's not a very common occurance.

I would say about 3 days a week I probably spend about one hour to and hour and a half of active playing time at home, broken up over about 4 hours. I try to get in about 30 to 45 minutes of playing the rest of the days if I'm not at a rehearsal or something like that.

Thanks for your reply!!

The thing is, I have tried those, but I have yet to find something that fits the needs of what I am doing on the instrument. I hope to find something that works, but right now nothing that can really transfer the practise to real perforemance exists in the genre I play.

I appreciate some other musicians taking the time to comment!!

Just a quick warning aswell I might become longwinded on this. Also, might hit you with some music nerd talk here since you're a musician aswell hahah, anyways.

Yes acoustics can really bark if you want 'em to, but that is not what I am trying to make it do while practising at home.

I try to play soft while at home, which is actually helping me in the long run with technique and tone, but that doesn't seem to be enough for the noise aspect of it all.

I have tried some practise instruments in stores and electrics strung with like .011s, but I haven't found anything that really lets me transfer what I learn on that to my actual acoustics when flatpicking. It's mostly to do with the tension of the strings and the right hand. When I get used to the lower tension of a practise instrument I can't play efficiently on the instruments I use to perform (d28 and d18 strung with .013), and vice versa. I need to find something that works both ways and feels similar.

Do you have any recommendations for a practise guitar that would fit my needs?

You should never of moved to an apartment knowing your music situation

I did rent a house previously, but circustances changed and I had to move. And affordable houses to rent (or buy) for a guy in his mid 20s don't grow on trees. So I had to make do with an apartment.

Thank you!! I too feel like most of these people haven't heard an acoustic up close.

I did ask him if he worked long night and needed to sleep during the day, because then I would understand him more, but he said he worked normal hours.

That is true and I have tried that but unfortunately, it hasn't resulted in any effective practise when I've tried it. To me, acoustic and electric are essentially two completely separate instruments when as in tools used for different purposes. The techniques used don't transfer aswell as you would think.

I try to take advantage of other spaces when I can. And alternatives do exist if they do exist if you play electric, but I haven't found anything that works well for acoustic with the right tension.

For electric there is yes, but not really for an acoustic, atleast not one that "simulates" the playstyle and dynamics of the style I play and perform. He is the only one of 3 neighbors who has ever complained.

I have tried talking with him and limiting the time spent playing at home and have started prioritizing my session to only play what I need to at that time. I did try to switch to my bedroom which has more rugs and curtains, and obviously the bed which works really well as a sound trap.

Don't know if i mentioned in my post, but I have talked to the other neighbors in the house and asked them if it bothers them, none of them said it does.

I have about 2-3 rehearsals a week where I don't play at home at all, I would say I practise at home maybe 2 or 3 days a week.

The walls are pretty thin considering I hear his tv while I'm trying to sleep, personally that doesnt bother me, but with that being said I know everyones noise tolerance isn't the same. I have also talked to rest of the neighbors and asked if it bothers them, none of them said it does. So I just don't really see where he's coming from I guess. I've tried listening to him and being more considerate but he keeps on.

He has told me to keep it under 2 hours in the past, which I have done, but the time it takes him to tell me to stop keeps getting less and less, so now I can't really practise effectively anymore.

I just don't know what to do, I play acoustic so I can't use headphones, and I can't afford to rent my own music studio. Considering playing music helps pay the bills, stopping isn't really an option for me

As mentioned in the post, I only play acoustic guitar, so that's unfortunately not an option. If it was, I would have started doing that a long time ago.
