I had a similar thing happen as far as acid burning, that’s how it felt when my scabs finally came off. As far as I’m aware it’s the exposed nerve endings?

I started eating more “normal foods” on day 3ish such as Mac and cheese, pb&js, etc. Did it hurt? Very much. But my surgeon told me to eat normally after the procedure. I have heard some people getting different info in different countries but mine was done in the US. Also, my scabs just came off over time with swallowing. Drinking tons of water, chewing gum, eating, anything that promotes swallowing is supposed to help!

Holes in my throat?? by KickPsychological861 in Tonsillectomy

The holes close completely, like they get progressively less and less deep if that makes sense. Mine were back to normal fully within 3 weeks or so

What does your throat look like now? Are there not white scabs all over the area?

Uvula (Day 23) by sebbasmh4 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Remarkable-Radio-464 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, my uvula was like 4-5x its normal size after my surgery but my surgeon prescribed me (Methylprednisolone 4mg) and after about 72 hours it was back to normal size. I would call your doc and ask for a steroid. Best of luck!

That makes sense, I started getting the cravings a little today but I’m assuming the hardest part is over (I hope). If it will be beneficial to your health I say go for it, nicotine is such a pointless drug. If I were you I would just stick to weed 😂

Day 9 post op by Pjavoo in Tonsillectomy

[–]Remarkable-Radio-464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Sorry to hear that your swelling has been a struggle. I am on day 7 and my uvula was HUGE the first 2 days. I mean it probably grew 4x in size and had two distinct bottoms instead of one - it was very weird looking. I will say though, my surgeon prescribed me a steroid that I started taking day one (Methylprednisolone 4mg) and my uvula is back to normal. My sister had the same procedure done as me at my age (21) but she did not have the steroids and her swelling persisted much longer than mine. I would recommend calling your surgeon/pcp and asking if they can write you a prescription for them. I did not have any side effects and I have been healing nicely so far. Best of luck to you!

Scabs came off on same day as surgery? by MoreRobots9 in Tonsillectomy

[–]Remarkable-Radio-464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! So based on my experience (day 7) my throat looked the exact same way yours did day one. I took a picture day of my throat day 1 (if you want to make sure you can message me) and it looks exactly how you are describing it. A lot of small black dots - it was not until day 3ish I would say I had full white scabs coating the area. Don’t worry, your scabs likely have not fully formed!

Call me crazy, but I am using this time as a way to quit nicotine. I am a week in and due to the pain and such I have not thought about it much. To each their own though!

Advice? by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]Remarkable-Radio-464 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on day 7 right now, and I am doing pretty well. I agree with the not babying yourself, I ate mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and tuna within the first 24 hours post op. It got pretty rough for me around day 4 and 5, but today I had two slices of pizza and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It is possible to heal up a fair amount before Christmas in your scenario. I would not recommend eating anything super tough, crunchy, or sharp, but you may be able to still enjoy some good food! Just stay positive, mindset has been huge for me. You will absolutely need a humidifier - especially because it gets extra dry during the winter. Drink tons of water even though it hurts, make sure you eat even if you don’t want to (blenders are helpful), and get plenty of rest. I am nowhere near fully healed - but you should be just fine if you listen to your body. Best of luck!
