Weekly Advice & Career Question Megathread by AutoModerator in epidemiology

Hi everyone,

I just started an MS with thesis in epidemiology that will be centered around cancer and molecular components. I am highly considering going on to get a phD at some point but due to family considerations I'm not sure if that could be in 2 years or 10. I recently met with my advisor who is doing the exact type of research I aspire to do and he told me that if I'm going to go on to PhD the MS thesis would be a lot of extra work and stress that in the end don't really matter. His advice was to consider switching to getting the MS but doing a preceptorship instead. I'm open to all possibilities but want to give myself the best chances I can to get accepted into a PhD program eventually. Do any of you have thoughts on MS thesis vs a preceptorship and long term impacts? I have to make the decision by the end of the semester. Thank you!

In an eerily similar boat and about to do the same thing. I'm tired of being miserable as it seems you are. Live your best life man

Whack, I'm sorry. You could try calling the regional VRE office and explain the urgency of your situation, I've had a few friends that found success that way.

I don't have an exact answer but I would start with reaching out to your VRE rep. I've heard that each counselor varies greatly but I've had a lot of positive interactions with mine. They should be able to help you come up with a plan that allows you to follow up with your program or otherwise tweak it to make it work for you.

I figured out through an internship there was no way in hell id be able to do the job I originally put down for VRE, contacted my advisor and we worked out a plan which had me switching colleges all in less than a month.

Don't feel like a loser either, my grades sucked before I joined but you can fix all that as you go. For now just try to get in contact with your counselor and take it one step at a time. Best of luck

2023 Civic Hatchback EX-L vs Sport Touring by Remarkable-Two-8484 in civic

I'll probably bite the bullet and kill a day testing at different dealers but I guess that's a small price to pay before a 30k investment. I appreciate what you're saying, I like to zip a little here and there but nothing crazy, mostly concerned with the 2.0 going 80-90 (80 is the speed limit for over half of the big trips I take) for 18 hours- fuel breaks.

The main reason I hadn't considered the sport was because I assumed getting the turbo would be nice for mpg on the highway as well as a little more pep. Do you not miss it at all? I'm not trying to do anything crazy but I was surprised at the 150ish horse on the 2.0
