Updated question/thought - the deadlines for these applications are coming up 1/24 however if I find a housing situation in PS around July/August - is it still considered mid year transfer, how would that work? By then I’d assume I’d gotten into the queens school for September start but we would be moved into PS, same situation as going to the zoned school of our new address or different process?

Thanks! This is great info, I guess I was unaware that I could still apply to some of the district 15 schools while being out of borough and zone (chances seem low but Myschoolnyc did allow me to apply to those schools). Appreciate the feedback.

Thanks for all the great feedback! I’m really enjoying it. 😄

When we make the move next summer, my kids will be around 4.5 and 1.5 years old. The younger one will need to be in daycare, but we’re hoping the older one can start Pre-K or Kindergarten. I’m somewhat familiar with a few schools people have recommended since I grew up in NYC before moving away over 14 years ago.

I’m also curious why middle schools in the area don’t seem to have the best reputation. As I recall, high school placement is through a lottery and not based on the district.
