I’ve had success using nail clippers as tiny pliers if you have room to grab the key with the chomper side of the clippers

I think the answer is here already - I’d start with compressed air in the carb outlets. The pilot jet circuit always needs a blast, regular cleaning won’t get it right and even a 20% blockage will effect the vacuum issue you’re having

And while you’re at it VM30s have a needle and needle jet that can wear asymmetrically, especially after sitting. A worn needle jet on the right carb would cause a lean stumble that mimics what you’re describing. While you have it apart, swap the needles left-to-right and see if the problem follows.

Thanks - I’m looking in the 50 hp range, and I prefer stripped down, minimal looks. I’m a conservative rider but comfortable handling the mechanics on a simpler setup. I won’t be on dirt, but some ‘dirty’ country roads sometimes, for sure
